Job Title: Human Resource Generalist / Coodinator

Job Summary:
Heritage Classical Academy is seeking a qualified Human Resources Generalist / Coordinator. The individual will serve as an important member of the HR Team, supporting the mission of the school by cultivating a Christ-centered, healthy, and thriving workplace culture.
  • You will manage day-to-day HR administrative operations, support organizational culture and policies, and ensure compliance with employment laws.
  • The position requires a working knowledge of most HR functions, including talent acquisition, onboarding and orientation, training, employee relations, benefits administration.
  • You will ensure all HR practices align with the school's Christian mission, core values, and commitment to cultivating lifelong learning.

Job Requirements:
  • One to three years of Human Resource experience and a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or Business Administration OR the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least one year performing Human Resource Generalist activities with a service-based organization
  • One year of prior experience working within an academic environment is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in a variety of Human Resource functions
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and the use of an HRIS
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices, particularly within Ohio
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters with integrity and discretion
  • Willing to obtain the SHRM-CP designation or equivalent certification preferred

Job Responsibilities:
Administration / Operations
  • Works closely with the Director Human Resources to execute and support organizational policies, programs, best practices, and department procedures.
  • Assists in all areas of the department impacting Human Resource functions; provides administrative support as needed on all related matters.

Recruitment & Selection
  • Collaborates with managers to understand the knowledge, skills, and competencies required by position.
  • Posts openings, recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified applicants for open positions.
  • Evaluates candidates for cultural and positional fit to identify the most suitable individuals to fill service, support, and management positions.
  • Reviews applications and interviews candidates to obtain work history, education, skills, competencies, and salary requirements; communicates information about the position and organization.
  • Prepares offer letters and related documentation for new hire processing; performs background checks and employee eligibility verifications.

Training & Development
  • Administers various aspects of the new hire onboarding and orientation program.
  • Verifies I-9 documentation and ensures the accuracy of all employee data entered into the HRIS.
  • Supports employee training and development initiatives and performance programs.

Benefits & Compensation
  • Understands and communicates the various benefits offered; assists employees as needed and addresses questions during the annual open enrollment period or a qualifying life event.
  • Performs tasks required to administer and execute compensation, PTO, leave of absence, occupational health and safety, and performance recognition programs.

Employee Relations
  • Responds to employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disputes, disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies utilized for Human Resource management.

Legal Compliance
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory requirements; includes safety training, anti-harassment and discrimination training, professional licensure, and certifications.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; reviews policies and practices to ensure adherence.
  • Compiles and files the EEO-1 annual report; maintains other records, reports, logs, and dashboards.

HR Technology
  • Supports employees requesting assistance with HRIS/ATS/LMS software usage, time sheet management, and PTO problems; works closely with technology customer support services to resolve system cases.
  • Maintains electronic and manual personnel file systems; creates and compiles reports as requested by the Director Human Resources.
  • Serves as the primary back-up for the semi-monthly processing of payroll; follows a prescribed, orderly sequence to ensure all steps are completed accurately and on a timely basis.
