Avail Staffing is seeking a dedicated HAZMAT Technician to support ship repair, maintenance, and modernization projects in a fast-paced shipyard environment. If you have experience handling hazardous materials, conducting environmental cleanup, and maintaining OSHA and EPA compliance, we want you on our team.

Job Responsibilities
  • Identify, handle, package, transport, and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and NAVSEA regulations.
  • Perform hazardous waste collection, segregation, labeling, storage, and documentation.
  • Conduct asbestos, lead, mold, and other hazardous material containment and cleanup activities.
  • Respond to hazardous material spills and emergency situations using proper containment and cleanup procedures.
  • Set up containment areas, ventilation systems, and decontamination stations.
  • Monitor work areas for environmental compliance and hazardous conditions.
  • Operate vacuums, pumps, pressure washers, and specialized decontamination equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain hazardous waste storage areas and equipment.
  • Assist with confined space entry support and atmospheric monitoring when required.
  • Complete daily reports, waste manifests, and regulatory documentation accurately.
  • Ensure proper use, inspection, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow all company safety policies and shipyard procedures.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of HAZMAT, environmental, industrial cleaning, or shipyard experience preferred.
  • Experience working aboard U.S. Navy or commercial vessels is a plus.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and NAVSEA regulations.
  • Ability to safely identify and handle hazardous materials.
  • Experience with spill response and hazardous waste management.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, tanks, bilges, and elevated areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, and various shifts as needed.
