Job description

Nature of Work Classified-Exempt Position Parks and Recreation/Hawks Nest State Park Under general supervision, this position will operate the Aerial Tramway at Hawks Nest State Park. The employee will safely transport guests, visitors, and employees to and from the Hawks Nest Lodge facility; safely load and unload passengers onto and off tramway vehicles; conduct daily and ongoing operational inspections of machinery and components of the aerial tramway, including surrounding areas, that may indicate operational hazards; employee will verify that pre-operational inspections have been completed and documented prior to opening for daily operation; the employee will perform regularly required maintenance, tram grounds, cabling, cable towers, and all associated mechanisms, primarily from extreme heights and in elevated environments associated with aerial tramway systems. Employee must be capable of safely performing duties while exposed to significant fall hazards in all seasons of weather, perform maintenance while secured in a suspended harness and fall-arrest system for extended periods of time, walking & standing on narrow catwalks, platforms, and structural members located atop tram towers and terminal structures, climbing vertical ladders of fixed access ways on tram towers and support structures, ascending & descending tower structures while carrying equipment or safety gear, able to maintain balance, spatial awareness, and controlled movement while working above open drop zones.

Employee will be required to wear and properly use personal protective equipment, including full-body harnesses, lanyards, helmets, and fall protection devices; able to work in confined or exposed elevated spaces without limitation or fear of heights; have sufficient strength, stamina, and mobility to climb, kneel, bend, reach, lift heavy objects and/or people using approved gear, and remain suspended for extended durations. This employee must be able to adhere to all safety procedures and use of fall-protection systems. Additionally, the employee will provide excellent hospitality and customer service to all guests, visitors, and other employees, May be required to attend hospitality training.

Employee may be required to attend and maintain climbing training and up-to-date tram operation training as needed. Employee will perform other maintenance related duties in other areas of the park and may travel to assist with the maintenance and operation of the Pipestem State Park tram when the Hawks Nest Tram is closed for operation or when training is required. May be required to work evening shifts on occasion and for special events.

Minimum Qualifications Training: Graduation from high school or the equivalent. AND Experience: Three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience or paid self-employment in heating, cooling, ventilation, building maintenance, tramway operation, chair lift operation, T-Bar operation, rope tow operation, or building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, plasterer, welder, machinist, or masonry. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must be able to pass a physical examination prior to employment and one every twelve months thereafter.

Must be able to successfully complete the Aerial Tramway Operator Training provided by the Engineering Section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. Other Information PG: 10 $32,862 - $56,373 Market Rate: $50,288
