This role involves performing bench-level mechanical and electrical assembly work to build and install cable and wire harnesses. You will use a variety of hand tools and powered tools to assemble, route, secure, and inspect harnesses in accordance with engineering documentation and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards, ensuring safe, reliable, and high-quality electrical connections.

Responsibilities

  • Perform bench-type mechanical and electrical assembly operations to build cable and wire harnesses and sub-assemblies.
  • Cut wires to specified lengths using appropriate tools and follow documented procedures.
  • Perform wire twisting operations to prepare conductors for subsequent assembly steps.
  • Carry out crimping operations using hand and electric tooling to attach terminals, contacts, and connectors.
  • Perform soldering operations on wires, terminals, and connections in accordance with established procedures.
  • Execute splicing operations to join conductors and ensure secure and reliable connections.
  • Insert wires, contacts, and components into connectors and housings as specified in engineering documentation.
  • Conduct in-process inspections at each stage of assembly to verify conformance to specifications and quality standards.
  • Build wire harnesses in full compliance with IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.
  • Route and secure wire harnesses within vehicle assemblies according to engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Conduct electrical continuity tests and inspections to identify any faults, discontinuities, or defects.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues found during continuity testing and inspection, ensuring final assemblies meet all requirements.
  • Use hand tools and electric tooling safely and correctly, following all work instructions and procedures.
  • Maintain an organized workbench and ensure components, tools, and materials are handled and stored properly.
Essential Skills
  • Proven ability to assemble wiring harnesses in compliance with IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.
