General Description
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Lead Hardware Engineer to join our engineering team. This role will focus on the design, coordination, and documentation of hardware systems for industrial and building automation control projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in electrical and control system design, proficiency in AutoCAD, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders including vendors, design teams, and fabrication partners.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Design & Coordination
    • Lead design coordination efforts between internal engineering, project management, and client teams.
    • Coordinate prefabrication activities to ensure designs are ready for efficient build and installation.
    • Manage design review processes, ensuring compliance with project specifications and standards.
    • Participate in and lead regular project coordination meetings with internal teams, clients, and vendors.
  • IO & Documentation Management
    • Define and manage I/O (Input/Output) requirements for control systems.
    • Generate and maintain I/O tables for all project phases.
    • Create equipment datasheets and ensure proper documentation is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Develop and maintain register mapping for field equipment communicating to PLCs.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Communication
    • Act as primary point of contact for vendor coordination regarding hardware specifications, lead times, and technical clarifications.
    • Review vendor submittals for compliance with project requirements.
  • AutoCAD & Technical Drawing Production
    • Use AutoCAD to create and update:
      • Floor plans for equipment layouts.
      • System architecture diagrams.
      • Control panel layout diagrams.
      • Detailed wiring diagrams.
      • System diagrams with point lists.
      • Sequence of operations documentation.
      • Installation details for field implementation

Qualifications
Required Competencies
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for industrial system design and documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of control system hardware including PLCs, DCS, and instrumentation.
  • Proven experience in design coordination, vendor management, and documentation control.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and system schematics.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional team collaboration.
  • Remote-based with occasional site visits to client locations and fabrication facilities.
  • Collaborative, fast-paced project environment with a focus on quality and deadlines

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent work experience).

Preferred Experience/Competencies
  • Experience with industrial automation systems across building and facility automation, as well as manufacturing environments
  • Knowledge of NEC, ISA, UL508a, and other relevant electrical and instrumentation standards.
  • Experience with control panel design and manufacturing processes.
