Paint Department Associate (Tinting & Color Match)

Palmer Ace Hardware – In-Store Position

Palmer Ace Hardware is looking for a customer-focused Paint Department Associate to support our in-store paint and hardware customers. This role is ideal for someone who is experienced with paint mixing/tinting, color matching, and paint product knowledge (including Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, and Behr) and who can confidently assist customers in both English and Spanish.

What you’ll do:
  • Assist customers with paint and related product selection (interior/exterior paints, primers, stains, sundries).
  • Mix, tint, and color match paint accurately using in-store tinting systems and processes.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized paint department (stocking, facing, inventory support).
  • Operate store systems for orders, inventory lookups, and customer transactions (including Epicor).
  • Answer questions, troubleshoot basic paint issues, and recommend solutions (sheen, coverage, prep, dry times, etc.).
  • Support general retail store operations as needed (hardware familiarity is a plus).
What we’re looking for:

Required/Strongly Preferred

  • Hands-on experience with paint mixing, tinting, and/or color matching.
  • Knowledge of major paint lines such as Benjamin Moore and/or Sherwin-Williams (and familiarity with Behr a plus).
  • Bilingual communication skills (able to assist customers comfortably in two languages).
  • Comfort using POS and inventory systems—Epicor experience or prior knowledge of Epicor strongly preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills and a helpful, team-oriented attitude.

Helpful experience

  • Prior experience in an Ace Hardware store or similar retail hardware environment.
  • Experience with True Value, Do it Best, or paint stores using Décor Fusion (or similar paint/tinting systems).
  • Retail hardware knowledge (fasteners, tools, basic DIY supplies) and willingness to cross-train.
Physical requirements
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and lift/carry paint products as needed (including heavier items).
  • Comfortable working around paint and tinting equipment and following safety procedures.
