Job description

Counter Sales / Service Intake Representative (Hydraulics / Mechanical) – Industrial Distribution
American Hose & Hardware (A Singer Industrial Company) – Forest Park, GA

American Hose & Hardware, a Singer Industrial company, is hiring a mechanically inclined Counter Sales / Service Intake Representative for our Forest Park location. This is NOT a retail sales role — this position is ideal for candidates with hands-on mechanical, hydraulic, or industrial repair experience who can diagnose customer needs, measure components, and provide technical solutions.

About Singer Industrial
Singer Industrial is one of North America’s leading industrial distributors of fluid power and motion control products, with 140+ locations and 1,500+ employees. We specialize in hydraulics, hose & fittings, belts, seals, gaskets, pneumatics, and automation solutions, helping customers improve uptime and productivity.

Position Overview

This is a full-time, on-site technical counter role focused on:

  • Hydraulic service intake & repair coordination
  • Parts identification, sizing, and assembly support
  • Technical counter sales and customer service

You will work directly with customers bringing in hydraulic cylinders, hoses, pumps, and components for repair, requiring mechanical troubleshooting, measurement, and problem-solving skills — not just order entry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Intake and evaluate hydraulic components for repair (cylinders, hoses, pumps, fittings)
  • Create detailed service work orders and repair tickets in ERP system
  • Diagnose issues and recommend hydraulic and mechanical solutions
  • Perform precision measurement using calipers, micrometers, and gauges
  • Calculate dimensions using fractions, decimals, and conversions
  • Identify and source industrial parts, fittings, and replacement components
  • Collaborate with shop technicians and service teams to ensure accurate repairs
  • Provide technical counter support and B2B customer service
  • Maintain an organized, efficient, and professional service counter

Required Qualifications
  • Hands-on mechanical experience (automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, hydraulics, machining, or industrial maintenance)
  • Experience using hand tools and precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, tolerances, and part identification
  • Ability to perform basic math (fractions, decimals, unit conversions)
  • Basic computer skills; experience with ERP systems (SAP, Epicor, Prophet 21, etc.) is a plus

Preferred Experience / Keywords
  • Hydraulics / Fluid Power systems
  • Hydraulic cylinder repair
  • Hose assembly and fittings
  • Automotive or diesel technician background
  • Industrial maintenance technician
  • Machining, fabrication, or mechanical assembly
  • Motion control or power transmission products
  • Blueprint reading or technical diagrams

Who This Role Is NOT For
  • Retail sales associates or cashier-only backgrounds
  • Warehouse pick/pack roles without mechanical experience
  • Candidates without hands-on tools, diagnostics, or measurement experience

What We’re Looking For
  • A mechanically skilled problem-solver who understands how components function and fail
  • A self-motivated technician-minded individual who takes ownership of their work
  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced industrial service environment
  • A professional focused on accuracy, efficiency, and customer solutions

Why Join Singer Industrial?
  • Industry leader in industrial distribution and fluid power solutions
  • Stable, growing company with career advancement opportunities
  • Work in a technical, hands-on environment with real problem-solving
  • Competitive compensation and benefits
