Job description

We are seeking a customer oriented Sales Associate to join our hardware store team. As a Sales Associate, you will be responsible for assisting customers in finding the right hardware products, providing product information, processing transactions, and ensuring a positive shopping experience. Your communication skills and knowledge of hardware products will play a key role in driving sales and customer satisfaction.

Work Environment
Work is performed in an industrial retail space with time occasionally spent in a warehouse. The employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. The volume is usually quiet to moderate.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Customer Assistance: Greet customers with a warm and friendly demeanor, ask about their hardware needs, and offer knowledgeable advice and recommendations to help them find suitable products.
  • Product Knowledge: Develop a thorough understanding of the hardware store's inventory, including tools, building materials, plumbing supplies, electrical products, and other hardware items. Stay updated on new products and industry trends.
  • Sales Generation: Engage with customers to understand their project needs and suggest additional products or accessories that fit those needs.
  • Merchandising: Ensure products are organized and displayed properly on shelves. Restock merchandise as needed and maintain a clean, tidy store environment.
  • Cash Handling: Process customer transactions using the point of sale (POS) system and handle cash, credit card, and other payment methods accurately.
  • Returns and Exchanges: Handle returns and exchanges according to store policy, aiming for customer satisfaction while following guidelines.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in managing inventory levels, conduct periodic stock checks, and notify management when products need to be reordered.
  • Customer Service: Address customer inquiries, complaints, and returns promptly and professionally, aiming to resolve issues while adhering to store policies.
  • Safety Compliance: Promote a safe shopping environment by following all safety protocols, including proper use of equipment and handling hazardous materials.
