Position Summary:
Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Police Service Technician - Ft. Pierce, FL.
The Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a customer service-oriented Police Service Technician to help maintain the safety and security of our Fort Pierce campus. This role serves as the first point of contact for visitors, manages access control at the campus entrance gate, conducts security patrols, responds to non-emergency service requests, monitors campus facilities after hours, and assists with incident reporting. The ideal candidate is professional, dependable, and committed to providing outstanding service while supporting a safe and welcoming environment for students, employees, researchers, and visitors.
Summary of Responsibilities:

• Perform duties as gate attendant for HBOI access control at the main entrance gate.
• Redirect visitors as appropriate to the Ocean Discovery Center.
• Communicate regularly with HBOI Human Resources, employees and associates regarding access for visitors.
• Patrol assigned areas of campus; secure and unlock campus buildings as needed; check for unsecured conditions; assist public in those buildings; verify affiliation of occupants of buildings after hours; report all suspicious activity discovered; assist public with information and direction; provide a campus crime prevention function during rounds by advising department or persons of unsafe or unsecured conditions.
• Perform rounds of property after normal working hours and on weekends. During rounds will maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing, temperature logs, notify "on-call" personnel as necessary to address any problems; serve as point of contact for fire and burglar alarm monitoring.
• Respond to non-emergency police incidents to include though not limited to: battery boosts, lockouts, providing security escort services lost/found property, prepare non-criminal police reports; minor accident investigations, etc.
• Handle telephone and walk-in requests for assistance from the general public; prepare necessary daily reports; assist with medical emergencies, fire alarms, and other occurrences within the scope of the department's responsibilities and mission when directed by an officer of higher rank.
• Perform other job-related duties as directed or as necessary which are similar and related assignments with the safety and security of the campus as the utmost in mind and in a highly professional manner of conduct.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma and one year of appropriate experience required. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Ability to type accurately and efficiently is required.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Previous law enforcement, police academy, security, or related public safety experience.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle and proficiency with computer systems, two-way radio communications, and standard public safety procedures.
Salary:
$20.00 per hour.
