Hand Solderer information
What is a hand solderer?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a hand solderer, and why are they important?
What are some common challenges a hand solderer might face on the job?
What is the difference between Hand Solderer vs PCB Assembler?
| Aspect | Hand Solderer | PCB Assembler |
|---|---|---|
| Certifications | Electronics soldering certifications often preferred | May require basic soldering skills, less specialized certifications |
| Work Environment | Clean, controlled environments focused on precise soldering | Assembly lines, often involving multiple tasks including soldering |
| Job Responsibilities | Manual soldering of components onto circuit boards | Assembling entire PCB units, including soldering and component placement |
| Industry Usage | Electronics manufacturing, aerospace, medical devices | Electronics manufacturing, consumer electronics |
While both roles involve soldering, a Hand Solderer specializes in precise manual soldering of components, often requiring certifications and working in controlled environments. A PCB Assembler performs broader assembly tasks, including soldering and component placement, typically on production lines. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

Javelin is a highly advanced, man-portable anti-tank guided munition designed to be carried and launched by a single operator. Developed by the Javelin Joint Venture-a partnership between Raytheon and Lockheed Martin-the system delivers unmatched capability to U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, and international forces worldwide.
Javelin provides a medium-range, fire-and-forget missile solution capable of defeating a wide range of threats, including armored vehicles, bunkers, and fortified positions. The system can be deployed from multiple platforms and has demonstrated successful operation from remote launchers mounted on unmanned ground vehicles. Javelin has been combat-proven in more than 5,000 engagements across Afghanistan and Iraq and is planned to remain in service through at least 2050.

- Certified, or able to become certified, in hand soldering, through-hole and surface-mount soldering, as well as cable and harness rework.
- Experience installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing military equipment.
- Proficient with standard electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes and digital voltmeters (DVMs).
- Skilled in all aspects of electronics troubleshooting, repair, and testing.
- Experience incorporating hardware and software modifications on tactical, training, and test/support equipment due to engineering changes, design updates, or obsolescence.
