H1B Sponsorship Java Developer information

What is an H1B Sponsorship Java Developer?

An H1B Sponsorship Java Developer is a software developer who specializes in Java programming and requires an H1B visa to work legally in the United States. Employers sponsor these developers by filing an H1B petition to the U.S. government, allowing them to hire skilled foreign workers when qualified U.S. candidates are not available. Java developers on H1B visas typically work on building, maintaining, and optimizing Java-based applications for various industries. The sponsorship process involves meeting specific educational and professional requirements, as well as adhering to federal guidelines for employment.

What are some common challenges faced by H1B Sponsorship Java Developers during the onboarding process?

H1B Sponsorship Java Developers often face unique challenges during onboarding, such as adapting to new work cultures, understanding company-specific coding standards, and bridging any communication gaps that may arise from working in a multicultural team. Additionally, they may need to quickly familiarize themselves with proprietary systems and processes while also ensuring their documentation and visa requirements are in order. Proactive communication and seeking support from HR and team leads can help smooth this transition and set the stage for successful integration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Java Developer seeking H1B sponsorship, and why are they important?

To excel as a Java Developer pursuing H1B sponsorship, you need strong programming skills in Java, a relevant bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, and experience with software development methodologies. Familiarity with frameworks like Spring, Hibernate, build tools such as Maven or Gradle, and proficiency in using version control systems like Git are typically expected, with certifications like Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer (OCPJP) being advantageous. Excellent problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication help you stand out when collaborating in global, multicultural teams. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering robust software solutions and meeting both technical and visa-related requirements in competitive environments.

Job description

Our world is transforming, and PTC is leading the way. Our software brings the physical and digital worlds together, enabling companies to improve operations, create better products, and empower people in all aspects of their business.
Our people make all the difference in our success. Today, we are a global team of nearly 7,000 and our main objective is to create opportunities for our team members to explore, learn, and grow - all while seeing their ideas come to life and celebrating the differences that make us who we are and the work we do possible.
Principal DevOps Engineer
Boston, MA | Hybrid | Onshape
Onshape, a PTC SaaS business, is redefining how professional engineers design, collaborate and manage product data in the cloud. Our platform brings the best of modern SaaS collaboration to 3D CAD - think SolidWorks meets GitHub meets Google Docs - and is used globally by teams building the next generation of products.
We are looking for a Principal DevOps Engineer to help scale and operate the global cloud platform behind Onshape's collaborative CAD and data management service. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, building automation, improving reliability and keeping large-scale SaaS systems secure, performant and resilient.
You will work closely with a highly technical team in Boston's Seaport District to create a low-touch, highly automated cloud environment. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, deeply hands-on with Linux and cloud operations, comfortable digging into code and infrastructure, and excited to raise the bar for deployment, monitoring, security and operational excellence across a global SaaS platform.
Why This Role Matters
Operate and evolve the cloud platform behind a globally used SaaS product. Focus on AWS infrastructure, automation, Linux operations, Kubernetes platforms, security, compliance, and operational excellence. This role is distinct from SRE and is centered on infrastructure and platform operations rather than Java application reliability.
What You Will Own
  • Large-scale AWS cloud infrastructure operations

  • Terraform and configuration management using Ansible/Puppet

  • Linux fleet management and automation

  • Kubernetes and cloud-native platform operations

  • Operational tooling, observability implementation and platform supportability

  • Security, compliance, GovCloud, ITAR and FedRAMP support

  • Cloud scalability, capacity planning and cost optimization

  • Technical leadership and mentoring across engineering teams

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and improve cloud infrastructure supporting thousands of cloud resources

  • Build low-touch, highly automated operational environments

  • Eliminate manual operational toil through engineering

  • Manage infrastructure as code and configuration management standards

  • Improve deployment consistency, disaster recovery and operational readiness

  • Partner with security teams on hardening and compliance initiatives

  • Create self-service capabilities that enable engineering teams to move faster

  • Influence platform standards and operational best practices

Required Experience
  • 10+ years in Cloud Operations, Platform Engineering, Systems Engineering or DevOps

  • Strong AWS experience at production scale

  • Expert Linux administration and troubleshooting

  • Terraform expertise

  • Ansible, Puppet or Chef experience

  • Kubernetes operational experience

  • Python, Bash or Go automation skills

  • Production on-call and incident response experience

Preferred Experience
  • MongoDB, Elasticsearch or similar platforms

  • GovCloud, FedRAMP or ITAR environments

  • GitOps and platform engineering experience

  • Cloud cost optimization and FinOps

  • Java application operational support

Why Candidates Join
  • Principal-level technical impact without people management

  • Large-scale SaaS challenges

  • Strong engineering culture

  • Opportunity to eliminate toil through automation

  • Hybrid flexibility in Greater Boston

This position is not eligible for employment-based immigration sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring current or future sponsorship from PTC.
Compensation (CIP)
PTC carefully considers a wide variety of factors when determining compensation. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is between $118,000 - 190,000. The salary range reflects a good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, candidates may be eligible for a performance-based bonus. Employees also have the opportunity to become a PTC shareholder through our employee share purchase program (ESPP), which allows for the purchase of discounted PTC stock. Certain roles may also be eligible for participation in our equity programs. Employees may be eligible for medical, dental and vision insurance, paid time off and sick leave, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) contributions and employer match, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, disability coverage and, if you are an office-assigned employee, a generous commuter subsidy. All total rewards and benefits programs are subject to applicable plan eligibility and other terms and conditions.
