Job Requirements
Are you passionate about helping customers with their building and home improvement projects? We are looking for a Lumber Yard Associate to join our team! This role is essential in delivering the Aubuchon difference-providing excellent customer service, ensuring accurate material handling, and helping customers and contractors complete their projects successfully. If you enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, and being part of a hands-on team environment, this is the perfect opportunity for you!
  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with lumber, building materials, and project needs.
  • Help customers locate and select the appropriate materials while providing knowledgeable recommendations.
  • Gather materials accurately to build customer orders and delivery loads.
  • Load building supplies and materials onto delivery trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Assist truck drivers with loading and unloading materials.
  • Unload incoming transport trucks and properly store products within the yard.
  • Operate forklifts and powered material handling equipment safely after completing required training and certification.
  • Maintain knowledge of lumber types, sizes, grades, and other yard products to better assist customers.
  • Ensure proper loading, unloading, stacking, and storage of lumber and related materials to prevent product damage.
  • Maintain accurate inventory by assisting with cycle counts, stocking, and communicating inventory needs.
  • Keep the lumber yard clean, organized, and safe while maintaining a professional appearance.
  • Follow proper material handling techniques and company procedures to protect inventory and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Understand and follow operating procedures, equipment manuals, product labels, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of safety practices and immediately report hazards or unsafe conditions to leadership.
  • Assist with deliveries and customer pickups as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with store and yard teams to ensure orders are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Follow all company policies, safety regulations, and Aubuchon's Core Values.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Yard Manager or Leader on Duty.

Work Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior lumber yard, hardware, retail, construction, or building materials experience highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of lumber types, sizes, grades, and building materials preferred.
  • Forklift certification or prior experience operating forklifts preferred; willingness to complete forklift certification required.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory and operational tasks.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with a team-oriented approach.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment and follow safety procedures.Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive, professional, and approachable demeanor.
  • Flexibility to work business needs, including Saturdays as scheduled.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including exposure to dust and noise.
  • Must be able to lift and move heavy materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, push, pull, and reach throughout shifts.
  • Must be comfortable working in an animal-friendly environment (accommodations available upon request).
