What does a gutter installer do?

A gutter installation professional is responsible for measuring, cutting, and fitting gutters to the edges of roofs to direct rainwater away from a building’s foundation. They assess the property, recommend appropriate gutter systems, and ensure proper alignment and secure attachment. Their work helps prevent water damage, erosion, and other related issues, making gutters a crucial part of home maintenance.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a gutter installer?

To thrive as a Gutter Installer, you need practical skills in measuring, cutting, and assembling gutter systems, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant on-the-job training. Familiarity with power tools, ladders, safety harnesses, and sometimes certifications in OSHA safety standards are typically required. Attention to detail, physical stamina, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication with clients and team members are important soft skills. These competencies ensure the safe, precise, and efficient installation of gutters, preventing water damage and maintaining customer satisfaction.

What are common challenges faced by gutter installers and how can they be addressed?

Gutter installers often encounter challenges such as working at heights, handling unpredictable weather, and ensuring proper alignment and water flow. To address these, safety training and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment are essential. Installers also need to communicate closely with homeowners or site managers to resolve structural issues or unique roof designs. Staying organized and following a systematic installation process helps minimize errors and ensures high-quality results.

What is the difference between Gutter Installation vs Gutter Repair?

CredentialsTypically no formal certification required, but experience preferredSame as installation, often requires experience with existing gutters
Work EnvironmentNew construction sites or replacing old guttersExisting properties, often on ladders or scaffolding
Industry UsageUsed during new building projects or full gutter replacementsUsed for fixing leaks, clogs, or damaged sections

Gutter Installation involves setting up new gutters on a building, often requiring knowledge of measurements and materials. Gutter Repair focuses on fixing or maintaining existing gutters, addressing issues like leaks or blockages. While both roles require similar skills and work environments, installation is about setting up new systems, whereas repair is about maintaining and restoring existing ones.

Do gutter installation professionals need to be licensed?

Gutter installation professionals are often required to have a license or certification depending on local regulations, especially for contractors performing extensive or complex work. Licensing may involve passing exams, demonstrating experience, and obtaining permits to ensure safety and code compliance.

How much money can you make installing gutters?

Gutter installation workers typically earn between $15 and $30 per hour, with annual salaries ranging from approximately $30,000 to $60,000 depending on experience, location, and whether they are self-employed or work for a company. Skilled installers who operate tools and follow safety protocols can increase their earning potential through experience and certifications.

As part of the Moran family’s network of locations, we offer a stable, supportive family culture where you aren't just a number—you are an essential part of our team.
We provide the leads, the scheduling, and a company box truck with a gas card. You provide the skill, the hustle, and the pride in a job well done.
The Perks & Benefits:

  • Steady Income: Competitive, reliable biweekly pay based on your experience.
  • We Supply the Ride: Company box truck and gas card provided—stop putting wear and tear on your personal vehicle.
  • Full Benefits Package:

    • 401(k) Retirement Plan.
    • Major Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance.
    • Paid Time Off (PTO) and Paid Holidays.
    • Generous Employee Discounts.
Key Responsibilities:

  • The Work: Install 5" and 6" seamless aluminum gutters, downspouts, and gutter protection systems to our exact standards.
  • The Travel: Drive the company box truck safely within our assigned local Tri-State territory to complete jobs and service calls.
  • The Standard: Keep a clean job site (good housekeeping is a must), stay on schedule, and maintain a positive attitude with our homeowners.
  • Service & Resolution: Diagnose and fix gutter issues on service calls, ensuring the customer is completely satisfied before you leave.
What We’re Looking For:

  • Gutter Experience Required: You already know how to run a brake, hang a run, and drop a downspout.
  • No Fear of Heights: You are comfortable working on ladders up to 40 feet and walking on residential roofs daily.
  • Physical Grit: Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Professional Reliability: Punctual, detail-oriented, and ready to work as part of a team.
  • The Essentials:

    • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to safely operate a box truck.
    • Must be able to pass a background check and a standard pre-employment drug screening. Because this position requires operating a company commercial vehicle, our fleet insurance policy enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy for safety-sensitive positions, which includes testing for marijuana (regardless of regional or state legalizations).
