They work with a variety of materials, most commonly walnut wood, to create ergonomic, durable, and aesthetically pleasing gunstocks. Their work involves detailed woodworking, finishing, and sometimes custom engraving to meet the needs of hunters, sport shooters, and collectors. Gunstock makers may repair or restore antique firearms as well as produce new stocks for modern guns.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a gunstock maker?

To thrive as a Gunstock Maker, you need expertise in woodworking, metalworking, and firearm assembly, often supported by vocational training or apprenticeships. These abilities are crucial for maintaining safety standards, meeting client specifications, and producing durable, reliable products.
