Since we first set up shop in the Windy City roughly a decade ago, our focus has been simple: Provide smart, fun tours to anyone looking to see Chicago from a little different perspective. While that goal means we'll never officially be "done" we embrace the fact that our guides, management team and support staff can come into the office each morning knowing that we have a fresh opportunity to show everyone just how much we love this city and the people who come to see us nearly every day of the year.
Job Description
City Segway Tours of Chicago is seeking applicants to lead tours of Grant Park, Museum Campus and other areas of Chicago for the 2018 tour season. Tours are offered seven days a week in the morning, afternoon and evening allowing for flexible scheduling around existing obligations or other part-time work.
Tours are run through some of Chicago's most scenic areas, offering guides a great opportunity to explore the city and meet guests from around the world while enjoying the fresh air and (mostly) sunny days of a Chicago summer. We're planning for a big year in 2018 and look forward to adding to our world-class team.
Duties:
• Arrive on time, ready to provide exceptional customer service for each tour.
• Provide a memorable guest experience from start to finish. This includes engaging and encouraging guests, giving a safe, informative and entertaining tour and taking responsibility for all guests and equipment.
• Provide information and personal recommendations to guests regarding restaurants, museums and attractions for those visiting Chicago.
• Basic office work to check in guests, take payment information and keep things running smoothly when needed.
• Occasional cleaning, stocking and organization of the office and machines.
Qualifications
Our ideal applicant will:
• Have prior experience as a tour guide/performer/teacher -OR- Have prior experience in customer service/retail.
• Possess a strong working knowledge of Chicago and be comfortable speaking in front of crowds.
• Have a strong history of working independently and making solid decisions on their own.
• Have a dynamic personality and be able to build connections across a broad range of personalities.
• Maintain a calm and professional demeanor and adapt in stressful situations.
• Be available at least 3-4 days each week, including one weekend day.
• Be available from early May through the middle of October.
• Know how to operate Segways safely or be able to learn to operate them safely during employment training.
Additional Information
Guides will be expected to work most summer holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, etc.) as well as weekends. Guides are on call up to one hour before tour time for assigned shifts. Please advise that the seasonal nature of our tours means that we are busiest between May and September. If you're unavailable for the bulk of those months or need to find work immediately, this may not be the job for you.
Timeline:
We will be accepting resumes with cover letters on a rolling basis through April and will begin to reach out to candidates for interviews in March. Training will take place throughout the spring (March/April/May). No calls, please.
