Job description

MULTIPLE DEPARTMENTS EXPANDING AND HAVE OPEN POSITIONS:

Des Moines Elder Law has doubled in size over the last couple years and is continuing to expand multiple departments. Accordingly, there are multiple openings in the litigation, probate and guardianship departments and we are eager to find the right fit!  Our firm’s practice areas include litigation, probate, benefits planning, guardianship, fiduciary services, estate planning, trust administration, corporate law, and real estate. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of these areas as we are looking for individuals that want a substantive, long-term role in a busy office. There is plenty of room to grow and cross-train with multiple departments. 

All positions involve regular communication and meetings with clients, attorneys, and colleagues in a team driven environment. Primary responsibilities include: preparing a variety of pleadings, accountings, inventories and correspondence; reviewing and facilitating approval of fiduciary reports with the Court; tracking and calendaring court deadlines; reconciling client-provided financial information; preparing the attorney's cases for Court attendance; scheduling hearings; and collaborating with a team of paralegals to support the overall efficiency and success of the firm.

We are seeking a candidate who possesses a Paralegal Certificate or associate’s degree and/or 1–3 years of relevant law office experience, strong drafting, proofreading and file management skills and the ability to manage an independent caseload.

All positions are full-time (37-40 hours per week), in-office position with flexible scheduling available between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. M-F--you pick your own schedule. A background check will be conducted prior to employment.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Able to work in-office (no virtual or hybrid positions available)
  • Prior law office experience required, preferably in one or more of the firm’s practice areas
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Strong commitment to excellence, professionalism, and continuous improvement
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently
  • Exceptional attention to detail, including proper grammar and punctuation (resumes and cover letters containing errors will not be considered)
  • Professional demeanor when interacting with attorneys, court staff, and families navigating sensitive or challenging circumstances
