What is a Guardian Angel?

Guardian Angels are volunteers who patrol neighborhoods, public transportation, and other public areas to help prevent crime and improve community safety. Founded in 1979 in New York City, the group is known for its members' distinctive red berets and jackets. They are not police officers, but rather citizens trained in self-defense, first aid, and conflict resolution. Their main goal is to deter crime through their visible presence and to empower communities to take an active role in public safety.

Individuals working as Guardian Angels, particularly in community safety or outreach roles, often face challenges such as de-escalating tense situations, working long hours in unpredictable environments, and building trust within diverse communities. Maintaining strong communication skills and collaborating closely with local authorities and community organizations also helps address these challenges effectively. Regular self-care and support from team members are crucial for sustaining motivation and resilience in this demanding role.

These abilities are crucial for maintaining public safety, fostering positive community relations, and responding calmly to emergencies.
