Job description

Job Description The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), AK Military Youth Academy (AMYA), Food Services Section is recruiting for Food Services Supervisor. This position is in the Supervisor Union (SU) bargaining unit at a range 16. This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

Please check our Definition FAQ to determine if you qualify. What You Will Be Doing: The Food Service Supervisor oversees all dining facility operations, including staff supervision, meal production, menu planning, procurement, inventory, budgeting, equipment, and vendor management. The position manages the Culinary Arts Program for cadets, providing hands-on food service training and ServSafe certification.

It administers USDA meal and food distribution programs, ensures compliance with food safety, sanitation, HACCP, and organizational standards, and maintains efficient meal service seven days a week. The role also manages purchasing, receiving, storage, billing, cost controls, scheduling, facility inspections, and vendor contracts to ensure safe, nutritious, and cost-effective food service. Our Mission, Values, and Culture: The mission of the National Guard Alaska Military Youth Academy ChallenNGe Program is to help intervene in and reclaim the lives of Alaska's at-risk youth and produce graduates with the values, skills, education, and self-discipline necessary to succeed as adults.

"The National Guard's ChalleNGe Program 8-Core Components" for success includes: Leadership and Followership: Develop understanding and application of positive leadership and followership responsibilities, including effective participation in positive social roles within groups. Responsible Citizenship: Develop an understanding of civic responsibilities and the importance of positive citizenship within the community. Academic Excellence: Increase proficiency in reading and mathematics, successfully attain a GED or high school diploma, and pursue opportunities for higher education.

Job Skills: Learn Basic employment skills; resume writing, job interview techniques, and career exploration. Life Coping Skills: Learn and apply personal financial management, teamwork, anger management, and drug and alcohol avoidance strategies to support responsible decision-making. Health & Hygiene: Understand nutritional basics, substance awareness, and positive personal relationships.

Service to the Community: Demonstrate civic responsibility by giving back to the community through the completion of a minimum of 40 hours of community service. Physical Fitness: Improve personal fitness by engaging regularly in daily exercise activities and intramural sports that promote physical wellness and healthy habits. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered. Minimum Qualifications A certificate from an accredited college, technical or vocational school for completion of a course of study in professional cooking, food service/dietary management, food technology, culinary arts, food science/nutrition, dietetics, chef's training or a closely related area. AND One year of lead level experience in food preparation in a custodial/residential institution.

This experience is met by service as a Food Service, Lead with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere. Substitution: One year of food service experience which includes nutrition and menu planning, staff scheduling, food safety and handling, and purchasing and inventory management in a custodial/residential institution will substitute for the certification. There is no substitute for the one year of lead level experience Special Note: Most positions require understanding of and willingness to work with the resident population of a state correctional facility, psychiatric hospital, retirement home, senior/geriatric center or center for the developmentally disabled.

Incumbents are required to adhere to the statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the institution which govern such activities as interaction with inmates/residents, employee conduct, security and property protection. Performance of duties may include sole responsibility for the supervision and security of inmates/residents.
