Job description

Amentum is looking for a qualified Ground Support Equipment Worker in our San Diego, California location.

Job Summary:

The Ground Support Equipment Worker makes repairs to Ground Support Equipment (GSE) following orders of a higher-grade Mechanic. Reports to Supervisor.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshooting malfunctions of GSE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools, prepares GSE for storage and transportation, uses automated maintenance data systems to maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions, maintains external fuel and grounding systems.

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE, inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation, services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, other relevant hazardous materials and compressed air, disassembles and assembles malfunctioning GSE accessories and components.

  • Removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls GSE components and accessories, stencils and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications, stores, handles, labels, uses, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations, operates, cleans, inspects, and services GSE towing vehicles.

  • Maintains vehicle records, maintains and updates paper and electronic equipment records, provides dispatch service for GSE, including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations, and practices good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention and safety at all times.

  • Position may require travel with minimum notice to remote locations.

  • Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, grasp or hold items and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, or smell and stand for a prolong period of timeperforming repetitive tasks. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Position may require travel with minimum notice up to 15% of the time to remote locations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.

  • Must have 2 years recent experience working on Automotive/Mobile Equipment and/or appropriate training in functions such as Inspection maintenance, repair and modification of powered ground support equipment used in support of electronic systems or sub-systems.

  • Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks.

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Security Clearance Required. Must be able to obtain and maintain an Active U.S. Government Clearance.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Government Common Access Card (CAC).

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credential/authorization. Note: U.S. Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

  • Pre-employment drug screening is required.

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Good verbal communication skills.

  • Basic knowledge of maintenance repairs on a variety of equipment, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Diesel engines.

  • Knowledge of Continuous Process Improvement.

  • Time management and prioritization skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of complex Crane systems.

  • Knowledge of Rigging/Lifting equipment.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical equipment and troubleshooting i.e., 220/440V.

Compensation & Benefits:

The hourly rate for this position is$40.05 per hour. Plus$7.75per hour, up to 40 hours per week, for Health & Welfare.
