Job description

Job Description

Sponsorship: GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role. Do not apply for this role if you will need GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes direct company sponsorship, entry of GM as the immigration employer of record on a government form, and any work authorization requiring a written submission or other immigration support from the company (e.g., H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, J-1, etc.)

Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as onsite. The successful candidate is expected to report to their assigned GM worksite, five days per week and to respond to the site in the event of an emergency after hours, on weekend or holidays.

The Role:

The GSC Engineering Change Coordinator supports Romulus Powertrain by leading cross-functional initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, responsiveness, employee engagement, and operational stability across Global Supply Chain operations.

The coordinator also serves as the plant change owner and Change Implementation Coordinator for engineering changes affecting the facility. This role manages product and process changes from initial request through production trial run (PTR), breakpoint, and obsolescence, ensuring that changes are understood, planned, validated, and implemented without disrupting safety, quality, material flow, or production.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Lead GSC improvement initiatives that reduce waste, improve process stability, strengthen operational discipline, and support plant business-plan commitments.
  • Facilitate improvement events, action-planning sessions, and follow-up routines to drive accountability, barrier removal, and timely closure.
  • Translate approved changes into clear action plans and ensure affected teams understand changes to processes, materials, systems, documentation, and training.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Production, Suppliers, Materials, Logistics, and GSC to resolve constraints and protect safety, quality, delivery, and production objectives.
  • Use applicable change and material-management systems and processes, including eMERGE, MGO, SQMS, FlexNet, eTracktool, EWO, and TWO.
  • Plan and execute PTRs, including trial-material planning, build scheduling, documentation, stakeholder communication, results, and follow-up actions.
  • Support launches, model changes, and startup-readiness activities by tracking deliverables, validating readiness, escalating risks, and removing barriers.
  • Confirm material availability, system data, process requirements, documentation, training, and operational support before implementation.
  • Define and manage breakpoints and material-consumption strategies to minimize scrap, obsolete inventory, material risk, and production disruption.
  • Communicate PTR results, open risks, decisions, and next steps to plant leadership and affected stakeholders.
  • Identify capability gaps and coordinate training in GMS principles, structured problem solving, standard work, change management, and process ownership.
  • Coach salaried and hourly teams in adopting improved work methods and sustaining changes over time.
  • Create and maintain standard work, training materials, reporting tools, presentations, and STS/TIS used for consistent execution and operating reviews.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, Global Supply Chain, materials, engineering, plant operations, operational excellence, or continuous improvement.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in supply chain, engineering, operations, manufacturing, business, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence teams without direct authority.
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills, including analysis of inventory, material banks, change impacts, and performance trends.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation, planning, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment and work rotating or flexible shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed.

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Automotive manufacturing or powertrain operations experience.
  • Working knowledge of GMS principles, plant operating routines, BIQ, PFCM, and plant-readiness processes.
  • Direct experience with engineering change management, CIC or ECC responsibilities, PTR planning and execution, launch readiness, or startup activities.
  • Experience with eMERGE, MGO, SQMS, FlexNet, eTracktool, EWO, and TWO similar systems.

This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
