Jennie Joiner with The Forum Group PNW is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting operations for a stable and growing organization with a complex financial structure, multiple funds, capital projects, and significant reporting requirements. This role serves as a key partner to the Finance Director and provides leadership to a small accounting team while maintaining involvement in the details of the accounting function.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and supervise daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll, cash receipting, and capital project accounting.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, financial processes, and compliance procedures.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Assist with cash management, investment tracking, debt administration, and related reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Support budget development, monitoring, and reporting activities.
  • Oversee financial systems and reporting tools while identifying opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to accounting staff.
  • Serve as a backup to senior finance leadership when needed.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience.
  • At least three years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience preparing financial statements, managing audits, and maintaining internal controls.

Highly Desired

  • Fund accounting experience is required. Candidates from government, nonprofit, education, tribal organizations, public accounting (with government/nonprofit audit experience), or other fund-accounting environments are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with governmental accounting, GASB standards, or multi-fund reporting environments.
  • ERP implementation or accounting software conversion experience.
  • CPA designation is a plus.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be both a technical accounting expert and an approachable leader. This person will be comfortable managing different personalities, supporting team development, and fostering a collaborative, flexible work environment. We are looking for someone who can balance strategic thinking with a willingness to roll up their sleeves and help where needed.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage with significant employer contribution for employees and dependents
  • Public retirement program participation
  • Deferred compensation plan
  • Generous vacation and sick leave accruals
  • Professional development leave
  • Personal holiday hours
  • Comprehensive holiday schedule
  • Stable work environment with long-term career growth opportunities

Work Environment

  • Full-time, salaried exempt position
  • Monday-Friday schedule with some flexibility
  • Business casual environment
  • Fully onsite position

If you're looking for an opportunity to lead, improve processes, mentor staff, and make a meaningful impact within a complex accounting environment, Jennie Joiner with The Forum Group PNW would love to connect with you.
