Job description

Travel: TBD – Expect approximately 10% – 25% but can vary

SUMMARY:

The Logistic Manager is responsible for Shipping for SmartLam North America, duties include selecting carriers, researching shipping methods, and assessing budgets. Actively manages the overall Logistic for truck and rail transport for all of SmartLam. Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure consistency throughout the Company. The person in this position will occasionally travel to all SmartLam’s plants to ensure proficiency and consistency throughout the company.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops, implements, and maintains processes to reduce costs and increase customer service.
  • Coordinates activities of departments to deliver efficient material movement to drive costs/inventory investment down while improving accuracy and response time to customers.
  • Supports plant business units’ goals of safety, quality, productivity, and customer service.
  • Works closely with Plant Manager and Project Managers to ensure timely deliveries match customer’s needs.
  • Reviews, analyzes, modifies, and implements efficient and effective department processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare all required reports and correspondence.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors department budget; manages expenses within approved budget constraints.
  • Identifies, documents, and implements opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Assures staff conforms to organizational policies and procedures and government regulations.
  • Keeps up to date on overall activities of the team, identifying problem areas and taking corrective actions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in related field or equivalent
  • Two to four years related experience or equivalent related to Truck Dispatching/ Scheduling.
  • Full understanding of DOT regulations
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic competence in subordinates’ duties and tasks.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
  • Proficient on MS Suites
  • Proven leadership and business acumen skills.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions.
  • Ability to perform the physical labor necessary.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
