Who is VMRC?

VMRC is a Christ-centered, nonprofit continuing care retirement community offering independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care for older adults. The Group Exercise Instructor

Range: $16.25 - $20.78


Is responsible for planning, preparing, and leading assigned group fitness classes (land and water-based) in alignment with VMRC Wellness Center standards. You'll create safe, fun, and effective sessions tailored to older adults that promote strength, balance, mobility, and overall vitality. This position is a PRN position. So flexibility is key.



Work Schedule:

  • Classes are held: Mon, Wed, Fri from 3:30 PM - 4:15 PM & 5:30 PM -6:15 PM Tues& Thurs: 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM.
  • Opportunities to teach additional classes when hours are available: Mon, Wed, Fri from 7: 00 AM -7:45 AM, 8:30 AM - 9:15 AM, & 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM
  • Not eligible for benefits

Essential Functions

Class Design and Delivery: Designs choreography and music for classes per certification and Wellness Center standards; leads diverse exercise sessions to meet member needs, including warm-ups, cardio, conditioning, stretches, and water-specific principles/safety.

Reporting and Compliance: Submits attendance reports for program monitoring; adheres to group fitness guidelines, ACSM/AEA/ACE protocols, operational policies, and emergency action plans.

Member Guidance and Safety: Provides tailored exercise recommendations; demonstrates water safety knowledge; ensures adaptability to participants' capabilities and motivates effectively.

Professionalism and Appearance: Maintains a positive, professional attitude/image; adheres to conservative dress code; reports member/staff concerns to supervisors/directors.

Teamwork and Coverage: Assists colleagues with tasks; ensures class coverage when absent; exhibits responsible communication and problem-solving with co-workers.

Promotion and Feedback: Promotes programs/events to class members; actively solicits feedback; encourages facility/program usage through quality customer service.

Customer Interaction: Addresses members positively; answers questions customer-friendly; ensures instructor availability for discussions to meet service objectives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with certification by the American Council on Exercise, the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, or the Aquatic Exercise Association preferred.
  • One year of minimum experience teaching group exercise classes preferred.
  • Must possess a command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Must be able to provide outstanding customer service using a friendly, outgoing, and customer service-oriented approach in person and by telephone, as well as the ability to work closely with the senior population in a calm, cooperative, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Must be self-motivated and possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; current CPR certification.
