What is a groundworks?

Groundworks refer to the initial phase of construction that involves preparing the site for building. This includes tasks such as clearing the land, excavation, laying foundations, installing drainage systems, and ensuring the site is level and stable. Proper groundworks are essential to provide a solid base for any structure and to prevent future issues like subsidence or flooding. The quality and accuracy of groundwork set the standard for the rest of the construction project.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a groundworks operative?

To thrive as a Groundworks Operative, you need practical skills in excavation, concreting, and interpreting construction drawings, often supported by a relevant CSCS card or NVQ qualification. Familiarity with tools and machinery such as excavators, dumpers, and laser levels is typically required. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and reliability are essential soft skills for maintaining site safety and efficiency. These capabilities are crucial for ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely completion of foundational construction work.

What are common challenges faced by groundworks professionals on construction sites?

Groundworks professionals often encounter challenges such as unpredictable weather conditions, managing tight project deadlines, and coordinating with multiple trades to avoid delays. Working with heavy machinery in varying terrain can also present safety risks that require constant vigilance and adherence to safety protocols. Effective communication with site managers, engineers, and other teams is essential to ensure the groundwork is completed accurately and supports the next phases of construction.

Job Descriptions
Turn conversations into opportunities. Build your sales career. Make an impact in homeowners' lives.
Groundworks is looking for motivated, outgoing, and goal-driven individuals to join our team as Sales Development Representatives. The ideal candidate isn't afraid to knock on a door, start a conversation, and go after a goal.
As a Sales Development Representative, you'll connect with homeowners in local neighborhoods, educate them about their home's foundation and waterproofing needs, and generate qualified opportunities for our sales team.
You don't need years of sales experience to succeed here. If you're competitive, comfortable talking to people, resilient when you hear "no," and motivated by results, we'll provide the training, coaching, and tools you need to build a successful sales career.
Every conversation is an opportunity to help a homeowner protect one of their biggest investments - their home.
What You'll Do
You'll spend your days in the field connecting with homeowners and creating opportunities for our sales team.
  • Conduct door-to-door outreach and neighborhood lead generation throughout assigned territories.
  • Engage homeowners in friendly, professional conversations about common foundation, waterproofing, and settlement concerns.
  • Educate homeowners on Groundworks' products, services, and solutions.
  • Identify potential customer needs and generate qualified sales opportunities.
  • Schedule appointments for Groundworks' sales representatives.
  • Build rapport quickly and create a positive customer experience from the first conversation.
  • Track and document customer interactions, leads, and appointments using company systems and mobile applications.
  • Consistently meet or exceed goals for qualified opportunities, appointments, and other performance metrics.
  • Participate in team meetings, coaching sessions, and ongoing sales and product training.
  • Represent the Groundworks brand professionally in the community.
  • Travel throughout the assigned branch territory as needed.
  • Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.

What YOU Bring
You don't have to come from a traditional sales background to succeed in this role. We're looking for the right attitude, work ethic, and mindset.
You are someone who:
  • Is competitive and motivated by achieving goals.
  • Is confident approaching and speaking with people you don't know.
  • Can handle rejection and stay positive when you hear "no."
  • Is self-motivated and comfortable working independently.
  • Has the energy to spend their day outside and on their feet.
  • Builds relationships easily and communicates effectively.
  • Is organized and knows how to manage your time.
  • Is coachable and eager to learn.
  • Is comfortable using smartphones, tablets, and mobile applications.
  • Takes ownership of their results and is willing to put in the work to succeed.

Previous experience in door-to-door sales, canvassing, retail, hospitality, customer service, fundraising, recruiting, or other customer-facing roles is a plus - but it is not required.
Why Groundworks?
At Groundworks, we're not just looking for someone to knock doors. We're looking for people who want to build a career.
The Sales Development Representative role provides an opportunity to develop real-world sales skills, increase your earning potential, and grow within a rapidly expanding organization.
You'll receive training, coaching, and ongoing development designed to help you succeed in the field and prepare you for future opportunities within Groundworks.
If you're driven, competitive, resilient, and ready to put in the work, we'll give you the opportunity to succeed.
What to Expect in the Field
This is an active, outdoor sales role. You'll spend the majority of your workday walking through residential neighborhoods, knocking doors, and having conversations with homeowners.
You should be comfortable:
  • Walking several miles throughout the day.
  • Working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, humidity, and other seasonal conditions.
  • Navigating stairs, sidewalks, driveways, and uneven terrain.
  • Working evenings and weekends based on business needs, community events, and homeowner availability.
  • Working independently while maintaining regular communication with your manager and team.
  • Traveling throughout your assigned branch territory.

Physical Requirements
The Sales Development Representative must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the day, frequently covering several miles while canvassing assigned neighborhoods.
The position requires the ability to safely navigate stairs, sidewalks, driveways, and uneven terrain. Employees must be able to lift, carry, and transport marketing materials weighing up to 25 pounds and frequently perform activities such as reaching, bending, kneeling, and using hands and fingers to operate mobile devices and distribute promotional materials.
The role also requires clear verbal communication with homeowners and the ability to safely perform essential job duties in an outdoor environment under a variety of weather conditions.
Ready to Build Your Sales Career?
If you're ready to get out in the field, meet new people, chase goals, and create opportunities, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply today and start building your future with Groundworks.
