Job description

BB&E is a full-service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering, and Program/Project Management Services to the federal and private sectors.  

Position Summary 

BB&E is currently looking for an Environmental Specialist to support industrial and federal environmental compliance and remediation programs in our Atlanta, GA office. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities 

Support Project Managers with the planning and execution of various projects. Responsibilities may include the following: 

  • Provide site investigation support, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, preliminary assessments, site inspections, and remedial investigations 
  • Oversee drilling subcontractors during the advancement of soil borings, monitoring well installations, and other investigative activities 
  • Conduct soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater sampling activities 
  • Familiarity with the operation of field instrumentation (e.g., turbidity meter, water level meter, iron kit, various pumps [e.g., peristaltic, bladder, submersible, etc.]) 
  • Track, document, and make decisions during field activities 
  • Interpret analytical laboratory data and prepare reports documenting the work performed, results, and findings 
  • Assist BB&E's clients with sustainability initiatives, management system implementation, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations 
  • Assist with environmental compliance permitting, including air, stormwater, and wastewater, and maintain compliance with environmental permits for our clients 
  • Develop plans including spill prevention, control, and countermeasure, stormwater pollution prevention plans, hazardous waste contingency plans, waste management plans, etc. 
  • Perform assigned workin accordance withproject schedules, plans, and budgets 
  • Travel up to 80% of the time to perform field work 

Requirements

  • Certifications: OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training is required; other applicable certifications could include EIT, GIT, PE, PG, CHMM, CEP, etc. 
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA), and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) 
  • Ability to collect and organize project data, conduct analysis, prepare reports, and provide recommendations without assistance 
  • Technical writing experience 
  • Field work experience (e.g., soil, sediment, surface water, storm water, soil vapor, and groundwater sampling, including experience with PFAS) is preferred 
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences 
  • Software: Proficiency using MS Office software, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is required 
  • Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to problem solve and function as a member of a team 
Experience & Education 
  • Experience: 2-4 years of related experience as an environmental professionalis preferred or 1-2 years of experience as a junior engineer (preferred)  
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree or higher in science or applicable engineering, geology, or other related areas is required 
Physical Requirements and Work Environment 
  • Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to: stand/walk/kneel/crouch and to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time; operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.; Must be able to pass drug testing; Must be able to travel up to 80% of the time with no limitations related to traveling, including working from the Atlanta office when not in the field 
  • Work Environment: Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions; occasionally required to navigate rough terrain, work in confined spaces, and operate at heights; Exposure to hazards/contaminants at times 
  • PPE & Safety: Required to wear personal protective equipment as necessary; may encounter hazards or contaminants during work tasks
