Reporting to the Field Supervision Supervisor, the rock mechanics engineer will be responsible for planning and coordinating fieldwork. He or she will conduct geotechnical studies and technical analyses in rock mechanics for the project.ย  Based at the Windfall site in the Northern Quebec region, the engineer will work on a schedule of 15 days on, followed by 13 days off. Transportation, lodging, and meals are provided.

Act as the company's representative on-site and ensure that all work is performed in accordance with industry standards;

Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and rules, and ensure that staff adhere to these rules;

Act as the company's representative on-site and ensure that all work is performed in accordance with best practices;

Participate in the planning, coordination, monitoring, and interpretation of geotechnical investigations;

Conduct field surveys and prepare soil and rock descriptions;

Conduct design studies (stability, infiltration, and deformation analyses of external or underground rock walls);

Establish ground control and rock mechanics processes for mining operations;

Train engineering candidates (CPI) and mining technicians in the field of ground control;

Review the ground control program for the Windfall Lake project as needed;

Implement the ground control program;

Actively participate in the planning and monitoring of the mining sequence, work site design, and the review of slurry backfill planning;

Participate in studies related to mining areas with relevant internal and external stakeholders;

Participate in the deployment of the seismic system for the underground project;

Work closely with the entire engineering team to ensure consistency across the various disciplines;

Conduct site visits to assess the situation and make appropriate recommendations regarding corrective measures to be taken;

Prepare reports, plans, and technical specifications;

When required, give presentations to members of management or other stakeholders to track the progress of the work;

Actively participate in various organizational meetings;

Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and rules, and ensure that staff adhere to these rules;

Perform any other duties related to the position of rock mechanics engineer that are relevant to the project's success.


Required qualifications

Hold a university degree in mining engineering or geological engineering;

Be a member of the Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec (OIQ);

Have at least five (5) years of relevant experience in the mining industry, including three (3) years in rock mechanics or site supervision;

Hold a valid Class 5 driver's license;

Have completed Mining Modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7;

Hold a valid explosives license.


Technical skills

Have knowledge of various processes in accordance with industry standards;

Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.) as well as specialized software such as Deswik and Rocscience;

Have a good understanding of the laws and regulations applicable to exploration and mining sites;

Have a good command of French and English. Will be required to work with English-speaking consultants and suppliers.
