Job description

Groot, Inc., a Waste Connections company, has an immediate opening for a 2nd Shift Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Elgin, IL.

Our Diesel Mechanic will work directly with the Maintenance Manager to ensure safe diagnostics and repair of our truck fleet and equipment.  We seek individuals with a leadership mentality and desire to grow with promotional opportunities in this role.

Pay rate:  Competitive pay - plus approximately 5-10 hours of overtime weekly (overtime is time and a half after 40).

Schedule: 2:00pm - until close Monday-Thursday, Friday is 12pm until 8:30pm with over time as needed plus rotating Saturdays which are 6am until 11am.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs repairs (including electrical and hydraulic systems) and assigned preventive maintenance services.

  • Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.

  • Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.

  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.

  • Reviews and completes repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.

  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.

Requirements:

  • Valid Class A or B CDL with clean driving record.

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs repeatedly.
