Job description

SGL Valencia is part of the Business Unit Graphite Solutions. Our facility focuses on expanded, flexible graphite solutions and fiber materials for sealing applications, and carbon fabric used as an ablative material. We serve chemical, automotive, aerospace, mechanical engineering, fuel cells and energy storage systems.

We are searching for an experienced Site Manager to lead our manufacturing plant in Valencia, CA. The site employs around 90 employees and specializes in specialty graphite tailor‑made solutions for petro‑chemical, space, energy storage and industrial applications.

What to expect
  • Provide leadership for day‑to‑day operations, creating accountability and leading by example.
  • Guide problem‑solving processes and facilitate communication of KPIs, performance and site objectives through townhall meetings.
  • Promote a performance and value culture plant‑wide.
  • Allocate resources effectively, fully utilize assets, monitor operations and trigger corrective actions.
  • Serve as Local Compliance Representative, assuring compliance with federal, state and local laws, regulations, codes, California OSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Plan long‑ and short‑term site strategies, including succession planning, to align with BU strategy, goals and KPIs.
  • Set and execute plant and capital budgets.
  • Work closely with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager to promote safety culture and provide a safe workplace.
  • Collaborate with quality and laboratory personnel to review product & process consistency, monitoring scrap rates.
  • Promote continuous improvement and encourage site operations.
  • Align engineering and technology projects with BU and site objectives.
  • Act as Managing Director and legal representative of SGL Technic LLC.
What we’re looking for
  • Strong team‑building, decision‑making and people‑management skills.
  • Excellent communication, planning, organizational, leadership and managerial skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills (process data‑driven mindset).
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants and California OSHA.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources).
  • Community stewardship and representation of Company interests.
  • MS degree in Engineering (chemical or mechanical) or related field.
  • 8 to 10 years of manufacturing experience; experience in pulp and paper or chemical industries preferred.
  • Experience speaking to large groups internally and to higher‑level management.
  • Preferred bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • U.S. citizenship required; access to export‑controlled or nuclear‑related technologies subject to ITAR, EAR and other regulations.
