Job description

Love the details that take creative work from “almost there” to absolutely ready?

As a Studio Artist Intern at Hiebing, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how great ideas become polished, real-world work. Partnering with Studio Artists and Art Directors, you’ll help bring projects across the finish line—from early comps to final print and digital execution—for a diverse mix of brands.

This isn’t an internship where you’ll spend your days watching from the sidelines. You’ll build hands-on experience, sharpen your production skills and grow your portfolio while learning how creative work really comes together inside an agency. If you’re organized, curious, open to feedback and excited by the details that make a design shine, we’d love to meet you.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with Studio Artists and Art Directors to produce and finalize creative work across print and digital channels.
  • Prepare, revise and organize design files for production.
  • Build and update layouts based on established creative concepts and brand guidelines.
  • Incorporate feedback accurately and efficiently while maintaining consistency across deliverables.
  • Help ensure final work is polished, accurate and ready for release.
  • Support projects from initial comp through final execution.
  • Learn the ins and outs of agency production, including file preparation, quality control and print pre-press.
  • Balance multiple projects, priorities and deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
  • Collaborate with team members across creative and other agency departments.
  • Contribute to real client work for a diverse range of brands.
Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in—or recent completion of—a graphic design, visual communication or related program.
  • A foundational understanding of graphic design principles, typography, layout and color.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Strong attention to detail and an appreciation for clean, accurate work.
  • The ability to stay organized while managing multiple assignments.
  • A willingness to ask questions, receive feedback and apply what you learn.
  • A dependable, self-motivated and collaborative approach.
  • A portfolio or examples of design work that show your skills, thinking and creative potential.
Even Better—but Not Required

Experience or coursework in any of the following is a plus:

  • Print production or pre-press
  • Motion design
  • UI or digital design
  • Front-end web design
  • Adobe After Effects or other motion tools

You do not need to check every box to apply. We’re looking for someone with a strong foundation, genuine curiosity and the motivation to keep learning.

What You Should Know Before You Apply

  • Location: This internship is based in Madison, WI—and we’re looking for local talent!
  • Hybrid Vibes: You’ll join us in the office every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

  • Hours: Ideally, our Studio Artist interns work 20-25 hours per week; however, we recognize that class schedules may require flexibility.
  • Work Authorization: You’ll need to be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or down the road.
