What are graphics installers?

Graphics installers are professionals who specialize in applying vinyl graphics, decals, wraps, and other visual materials to various surfaces such as vehicles, walls, windows, and floors. They ensure that these graphics are installed smoothly without bubbles, wrinkles, or misalignment, following design specifications and safety standards. Graphics installers may work in areas like advertising, retail environments, or the automotive industry, and often collaborate with designers and project managers to achieve visually appealing and durable results.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Graphics Installer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Graphics Installer, you need strong attention to detail, proficiency with measuring and cutting tools, and experience in handling vinyl or other graphic materials, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with installation equipment such as heat guns, squeegees, plotters, and sometimes certifications from manufacturers or industry bodies is beneficial. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team set top performers apart. These skills ensure precise installations, minimize errors, and foster positive client relationships, which are critical for maintaining a strong reputation in this hands-on field.

Is graphic design well paid?

Graphic installers typically earn wages that vary based on experience, location, and the complexity of the project. While some positions offer competitive pay, it generally depends on the industry and whether the role involves specialized skills or certifications. Overall, it is often considered an entry-level or mid-level trade with moderate compensation compared to other design-related careers.

Attention to detail and knowledge of materials are essential for quality installation.

ABOUT MKG
Founded in 2003, MKG is a women-led creative agency specializing in brand experience. From moments to movements, our work breaks through culture by connecting brands with their people. We're obsessively curious problem solvers who humanize brands through creative storytelling, purpose-driven engagement, beautiful design and impeccable production. We're proud to be long-standing partners to brands like Google, Target, Netflix, Meta, HBO, Delta Air Lines, Béis and Spotify and have offices in NYC and LA, but work everywhere else, too.
WORKING AT MKG
We're in the business of experience. We aim to create incredible experiences for everyone - that includes consumers, our clients, and our teammates as well. We care deeply about the journey just as much as the final product. So while you'll be working hard to check all the details (twice) to make sure the work is flawless, you'll be shoulder to shoulder with some of the brightest, most compassionate and collaborative people in the industry.
We have offices in NYC and LA. Candidates should be within commuting distance of either office and will need to be available for in-person collaboration on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
MKG is looking for a talented and versatile Graphic Designer who demonstrates excitement for working across a variety of execution types as well as a persistent curiosity of new mediums and methods to try. As a creative agency specializing in brand action, each project we take on is totally different from the next. With that, graphic scopes encompass a wide range of 2D needs, both physical and digital.
WHAT YOU WILL DO IN THIS ROLE:
  • Collaborate and communicate closely with creative, production, and account teams to bring ideas from concept to execution.
  • Concept, design, and execute visual identity systems and graphic directions for campaigns and experiential activations.
  • Design both large and small format printed graphics for live experiences such as large brand moments, step and repeats, signage and wayfinding, menus, branded collateral, swag, vehicle wraps, OOH campaigns, etc
  • Design digital assets that support campaigns and live experiences such as microsites, interactive interfaces, social assets, storyboards for motion graphics and content supers, etc.
  • Design effective proposal decks and presentation materials to help sell ideas and bring concepts to life.
  • Successfully generate supporting visuals and mockups using AI and/or other efficient and effective tools.
  • Support internal marketing initiatives with creative assets that showcase the agency's work and culture.
  • Partner with print vendors and to ensure designs are within graphics budget, prepared correctly for print and produced at the quality required.
  • Be present on-site for activations to oversee and direct graphic installers and support with other installation efforts as needed.
  • Manage multiple projects at once while maintaining a high level of quality, consistency, attention to detail, organization and positive team vibes.
  • BONUS CAPABILITY (not mandatory): Produce motion graphic assets that enhance visual storytelling.

Requirements
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THIS ROLE:
Given the nature of experiential work, this role may require occasional travel and flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as business needs arise
  • 2-5 years of experience in graphic design (ideally print and digital), preferably with time spent in experiential or environmental graphic design.
  • A degree in Graphic Design, Communications Design, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Passion for design and curiosity to stay current with industry / culture / design trends and emerging tools.
  • Experience developing and maintaining brand identities and guidelines.
  • Strong eye for typography, layout, and visual storytelling.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines.
