In January 2021, the iconic brand was relaunched under new ownership as EBONY Media Group, a diversified multi-platform media company. This is an exciting chapter for the beloved brand, and we are looking for talented, enthusiastic candidates to join our close-knit, highly collaborative team.     THE ROLE

    The Jr. Graphic Designer is an emerging creative who loves culture and is passionate about EBONY’s legacy, its archives, and its commitment to delivering excellence to the global Black community. Reporting to and supported by senior members of the creative team, the Jr. Graphic Designer will help bring social-first creative (static and motion) to life across EBONY’s platforms, contributing to its look, feel, and tone while learning to maintain brand alignment across all platforms. This is an exciting opportunity to grow your craft while helping reimagine one of the most well-known and beloved media brands in the world.

    RESPONSIBILITIESCreative
  • Help design and produce socialfirst creative (static and motion) for alwayson social, partner social, and editorial extensions, with guidance from senior designers
  • Apply the EBONY visual brand identity to create culturally relevant socialfirst content, supporting the brand’s core values and mission
  • Contribute ideas to creative concepts and campaigns that elevate the brand and inspire the next generation of EBONY readers
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support content that tells the brand story and supports marketing initiatives
  • Build and maintain graphic templates and collateral to support the social team
  • Develop a creative point of view that can translate across social media platforms and digital media (website, newsletter)
  • Uphold a high standard of creative quality across brand materials
  • Deliver quality output within deadlines and budgets
  • Stay current on creative and design trends to help the brand evolve

  • Support ambitious standards across all design work
  • Follow brand guidelines and incorporate feedback on audience response and engagement
  • Help maintain consistency of brand messaging and visual identity across all touchpoints
  • Stay aware of current industry and technology standards, with a focus on social media and developing trends
  • Qualifications
  • 35 years of handson experience in graphic design and/or motion graphics in the social and digital space, with a strong visual portfolio
  • Some exposure to creating socialfirst content, whether for brands, personal projects, or school
  • Familiarity with top social media platforms
  • Proficient in Canva
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Experience with After Effects
  • Ability to translate style guides into visual creative across static, motion, and print assets
  • Eager to learn, open to feedback, and able to take direction from senior team members and other departments
  • Comfortable in a fastpaced, creatively demanding environment, balancing multiple projects with tight deadlines
