ABOUT THE ROLE
This role sits in SCJ’s North America Consumer Brands Unit (NACBU) and reports to the Director of Design – North America Consumer Brands. NACBU consists of Home Cleaning, Home Storage, and Air Care, and includes market leading brands such as Glade, Scrubbing Bubbles, Windex, Shout, Drano and Ziploc.

As Manager, Design - Air Care, you will lead holistic design from strategy through execution. You’ll create effective and compelling brand/design systems and manage external agencies to implement and maintain the consistency of such systems across products, packaging, and graphics to drive brand growth.


In this role, you will champion design within a branded ecosystem and collaborate with cross-functional partners to realize consumer-centric and ownable brand expressions. You’ll be nimble and able to lead design strategy and manage external graphic and industrial design agency partners to deliver on time and on budget. Additionally, the Manager, Design - Air Care will use design to influence business direction and contribute to New Product Development ideas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead development of brand design strategies and brand foundation tools to deliver holistic brand building solutions and drive sustainable growth
• Partner with Consumer Insights, Brand Marketing and Innovation to identify unmet consumer needs and wants
• Collaborate cross functionally to create new products and experiences
• Evangelize the power of design; motivate team engagement for RD&E, Marketing and Research to deliver a competitive advantage to SC Johnson
• Maintain a strong external curiosity, scanning the broad marketplace for new ideas and possibilities
• Liaise with Package Engineers, Sustainability, Brand, Innovation, and Agency Partners to ensure design quality and consumer experience
• Lead the execution of the end-to-end graphics and IUX/product design development processes from briefing through design for manufacturing to ensure best in class design execution


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
• Bachelor’s degree in Product/Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Design Strategy, or a closely related field with 7+ years of experience in brand design OR advanced degree in Product/Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Design Strategy, or a closely related field with 5+ years of experience in brand design
• Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
• Experience leading holistic brand design with an understanding of the intersection between 2D and 3D design and the ability to move seamlessly between the two
• Consumer Product Goods (CPG) industry experience preferred
• Experience in two of the following: product form language, user-centered design, design for manufacturability
• Experience in Adobe Creative Suite plus one of the following: SolidWorks, Rhino, Key Shot, Sketchbook Pro. Analog sketching mastery a plus
• Experience in written and oral presentation of design strategy and conceptual ideas to senior level and C-suite stakeholders
• Excellent ability to work with cross functional teams – to influence them, push them, encourage them, listen to them, celebrate them, trust them, and unleash them to do what they do best. Teams typically include RD&E, consumer insights, design, legal, regulatory, product supply, procurement, and finance
• Passionate and opinionated; has a well-formed point of view on everything from the best candy bar to the next big trend in home cleaning
• Insatiable curiosity for brand, advertising, and start-up stories and trends, evidenced by frequent consumption and incorporation of external lessons/practices into work engagements
• Loves to tinker with processes, products, and language because they enjoy it, and it helps produce continuous improvement
• Strong willingness to figure out something they don’t understand, simplify complex situations, and remove barriers by challenging assumptions and recommending alternative courses of action
• Excellent communicator: an advocate for design thinking and approach. A demonstrated passion for teaching others

• Full-time onsite role at Sam’s Campus, Mt. Pleasant, WI
• Remote work is available for eligible employees once per week.
• This role is eligible for domestic relocation.
