POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

Apollo Colors, wholly owned by Sun Chemical Corporation, is seeking a highly motivated and result-oriented Plant Engineer to join our team. The Plant Engineer, under the general supervision of the Site Manager, is responsible for all engineering, maintenance, and repair of the company's manufacturing equipment, buildings, and grounds. Support the operational day-to-day business and provide strategic planning through long-range production equipment upgrades.  This position is responsible for the overall administration of Engineering and Maintenance Management for the Rockdale, IL site. This role has two (Instrument Control Specialist & Maintenance Manager) direct reports and eight indirect reports.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan, organize, and direct the maintenance programs and processes of the facility.
  • Oversee maintenance of the fire suppression system.
  • Oversee and maintain ammonia system, in partnership with vendor, for efficient operation of the Icehouse.
  • Plan and execute the defined scope of process development and optimization activities, CAPEX measures.
  • Evaluate opportunities, carry out process studies, and process optimization. Evaluate opportunities, carry out process studies, process optimization, troubleshooting, and safety/reliability improvements.
  • Oversee the process software, PLCs, RTUs, and SCADA  that manage all chemical reactions and mixers.
  • Develop, execute and evaluate maintenance-related performance (PM completion, R&M spend to budget, downtime, OEE) for manufacturing equipment and facilities.
  • Coordinate corporate maintenance activities to reduce the overall downtime of manufacturing equipment and expenses.   Ensure efficient utilization of maintenance staff.
  • Administer the PM program utilizing systems to drive operational improvements through preventative and predictive maintenance methodologies for manufacturing, creating a reliability-centered environment.
  • Manage CAPEX requirements related to manufacturing equipment, facility maintenance, and improvement. 
  • Manage maintenance services provided by outside contractors.
  • Obtain quotes and tenders from vendors and suppliers, calculate and compare costs for goods and services to maximize cost-effectiveness.
  • Participate in plant programs and/or special projects as required, such as ISO, Six Sigma/Business Improvement, etc.
  • Consistently administers corporate and local policies and procedures in accordance with their terms.
  • Working knowledge of environmental stewardship and sustainability in a chemical manufacturing capacity (e.g., hazardous materials, environmental permits, etc.).
  • Layout, design, and budget capital projects
  • Manage and develop a high-performing team to provide support.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and best practices

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering and maintenance, with a strong focus on ammonia, steam, and batch manufacturing.
  • 3-5 years of supervisor or manager experience.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD, and PLC Systems and Architecture.

Salary: $100k - $150k
