Job description

Ascendant is seeking a Graphic Designer to support the Global Markets Communications team at the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration. In this role, the Graphic Designer will create engaging visual communications that help advance DOC's mission to:
  • Attract foreign direct investment to the United States through the SelectUSA program
  • Promote U.S. exports
  • Support commercial diplomacy
  • Advance advocacy initiatives

This is a full-time position supporting a federal contract. The position is based in Washington, DC (Federal Triangle/Metro Center) and requires onsite work five days per week to support close collaboration with government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design compelling print and digital communications that support Global Markets programs and initiatives.
  • Create marketing and communications materials, including presentations, fact sheets, infographics, flyers, posters, event collateral, conference materials, and social media graphics.
  • Develop logos, illustrations, icons, and other visual assets for print and digital publications.
  • Create and maintain templates, style guides, branding standards, and design toolkits to ensure a consistent visual identity.
  • Collaborate with communications staff and program teams to translate complex information into clear, visually engaging products.
  • Coordinate with photographers, videographers, and event vendors, reviewing assets to ensure quality and brand consistency.
  • Manage graphic design requests, prioritize workloads, and track projects to ensure timely delivery.
  • Ensure all materials meet federal accessibility, branding, and quality standards

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field
  • 3+ years of professional graphic design experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat)
  • Strong experience designing presentations, publications, and marketing materials for both print and digital platforms
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint)
  • Familiarity with accessibility requirements (Section 508) for digital communications
  • Experience supporting a federal government agency or contractor preferred
  • Experience developing or maintaining organizational branding and visual identity standards desired
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
