Job description

We are seeking a creative, energetic, and youth-focused Graphic Design & Film Specialist to join our after-school program team. The ideal candidate will inspire and engage young people through hands-on learning experiences in graphic design, digital media, photography, videography, and film production. This role provides participants with opportunities to develop creative, technical, and storytelling skills while producing projects that showcase their talents and voices.

The Graphic Design & Film Specialist will create a positive learning environment where students can explore digital arts, build confidence, collaborate with peers, and develop skills that may lead to future educational and career opportunities.

Reports To: Program Director, PS224

Location: 757 Wortman Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11208

Hours: 8 - 10 hours / week; Non-Exempt, September - June

Schedule: Program Hours are Monday - Friday, 2pm - 6pm

Salary: $19.50 / HR - $25.50

Program Development & Instruction

  • Plan and facilitate engaging graphic design and film-making activities for youth in grades K8 (or applicable grade levels).
  • Teach students the fundamentals of graphic design, including:
    • Design principles
    • Color theory
    • Typography
    • Branding and visual communication
  • Introduce students to digital design platforms such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other age-appropriate software.
  • Teach film production concepts, including:
    • Storyboarding
    • Scriptwriting
    • Camera operation
    • Video editing
    • Audio recording
    • Film production techniques
  • Guide participants through individual and group creative projects.

Student Engagement

  • Foster creativity, teamwork, and self-expression through media arts.
  • Encourage student voice by helping participants create projects that reflect their experiences and interests.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate varying skill levels and learning styles.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Project Management

  • Organize student showcases, exhibitions, screenings, or digital portfolios.
  • Assist students in creating promotional materials, newsletters, social media content, and program-related graphics.
  • Maintain and manage media equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure all student work complies with program policies and safety guidelines.???????

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in graphic design, Film Production, Media Arts, Communications, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience in graphic design, filmmaking, digital media, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children and/or youth.
  • Knowledge of graphic design software and video editing platforms.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to create engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans and activities.
  • Passion for youth development, creativity, and mentorship.
