Title
Graduate Quantitative Fellow - Quantitative, Statistic, and Mathematic Assistance
Position Description
The Graduate Quantitative Fellow (GQF) will work 10 hours per week and receive up to 15 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 6 for fall, 6 for spring and 3 for summer.
Duties
As a Graduate Quantitative Fellow, you will serve as a dedicated academic support resource, working 10 hours per week to enhance the quantitative skills and academic success of graduate students in all academic programs at BSU.
Your key responsibilities include:
  • Provide tailored quantitative and analytical support to students both within and outside your academic program to foster their development in data analysis, statistical reasoning, and scholarly communication involving quantitative methods.
  • Work at least 2 of the 10 weekly hours on campus in the College of Graduate Studies, Lifelong Learning Lounge (Hart 118), or other location approved by Graduate Studies. This is a required and non-negotiable commitment for all GWFs.
  • Assist students with quantitative reasoning projects through various formats, including in-person consultations, email correspondence, phone calls, and virtual platforms such as Skype or FaceTime.
  • Provide quantitative reasoning assistance, as relevant, to all students in specific academic programs through workshops, newsletters, quantitative reasoning tips, Blackboard, and classroom visits.
  • Attend the mandatory Graduate Fellowship Orientation in September
  • Attend mandatory monthly group meetings (date/times of these meetings will be discussed within the group)
  • Participate in the spring Student Arts and Research Symposium, a requirement of all graduate assistants and fellows.
  • Track hours and services provided, and complete brief reports as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Requirements
  • Be enrolled in at least 6 graduate credits each fall and spring semester
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge in quantitative reasoning, mathematics, and statistics as tools to answer research questions
  • Be knowledgeable of specific computer platforms for quantitative and statistical analysis (e.g. SPSS, R, Mathematica, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse student populations in one-on-one and group settings, both in person and virtually
  • Ability to provide quantitative reasoning support across a variety of academic programs, or a willingness to learn and adapt as needed
  • Willingness to work closely with other Graduate Fellows, faculty, and staff, and to contribute to a supportive academic community
