What is a graduate finance analyst?

Graduate Finance Analysts are entry-level professionals who have recently completed a degree, typically in finance, accounting, or a related field, and work within finance teams to analyze financial data, assist with budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. They support senior analysts and managers by preparing financial models, conducting research, and helping interpret financial results to inform business decisions. This role is often part of a structured graduate program, providing training and development opportunities to build a foundation for a long-term career in finance.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a graduate finance analyst expect during their first year?

As a Graduate Finance Analyst, you can expect to work on a variety of tasks including financial data analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and preparing reports for senior management. Early in your role, you'll likely assist with month-end close processes, variance analysis, and support project teams with financial modeling. You'll often collaborate with colleagues from accounting, operations, and business units to gather data and provide insights that inform decision-making. This exposure helps you build a strong foundation in both technical and interpersonal skills, setting the stage for career progression within the finance function.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a graduate finance analyst, and why are they important?
