Graduate Editing information

Are editors still in demand?

Editors remain in demand across various industries such as publishing, media, and corporate communications, especially those skilled in digital editing and content management. The growth of online content and the need for clear, accurate communication sustain steady employment opportunities for qualified editors.

What is the difference between Graduate Editing vs Junior Editor?

AspectGraduate Editing
QualificationsTypically requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field; some roles may seek internships or entry-level experience
Work EnvironmentEntry-level position often in publishing houses, media companies, or freelance settings
ResponsibilitiesAssisting senior editors, proofreading, basic editing tasks, learning industry standards

Graduate Editing is an entry-level role focused on learning and supporting editing tasks, often requiring a relevant degree. In contrast, a Junior Editor usually has some prior experience, handles more complex editing responsibilities, and may oversee specific projects. Both roles are common in publishing and media industries, but Junior Editors typically have more independence and responsibility.

What is the highest paying editing job?

The highest paying editing jobs are often in specialized fields such as medical, technical, or legal editing, where editors typically have advanced degrees and certifications. Senior editors or managing editors in large organizations or publishing houses can also earn high salaries, especially with extensive experience and expertise in editing complex content. These roles often require strong skills in industry-specific terminology and advanced editing tools.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

In the US, high-paying roles such as senior executives, specialized surgeons, and successful entrepreneurs can earn $500,000 or more annually. Certain roles in finance, technology, and law, especially with bonuses or profit sharing, also reach this level, often requiring advanced skills, extensive experience, and leadership responsibilities.

How to get an editing job with no experience?

To get a graduate editing job with no experience, focus on building a portfolio of writing and editing samples, gain relevant skills through online courses or workshops, and consider internships or volunteer opportunities to develop practical experience. Familiarity with editing tools like Microsoft Word or Google Docs and strong attention to detail are also valuable for entry-level positions.

Job description

The Daily Grace Co. Mission
The Daily Grace Co. exists to equip disciples with biblically rich resources that bring the Word of God to the everyday moments of life. We are passionate about creating resources that are theologically sound, beautifully designed, and accessible to all who desire to know and love God's Word more deeply.
About the Role
The Daily Grace Co. is seeking an Acquisitions Editor to identify, evaluate, and acquire high-quality Bible studies, trade books, and theological resources that align with our mission, statement of faith, and publishing strategy. This role is central to expanding our publishing program by discovering new voices and moving proposals from submission to acquisition.
The ideal candidate will be audience- and market-aware, strategic, and driven, with strong editorial judgment, excellent theological discernment, and a proven track record of signing books that advance both mission and financial goals. You will collaborate closely with cross-departmental teams to ensure each acquisition meets editorial, theological, and market standards.
Ideal Candidate
You are a results-oriented acquisitions professional who loves working with authors to bring biblically faithful and engaging content to life. You thrive on proactively managing multiple projects, taking initiative, and driving acquisitions to completion. You have experience negotiating contracts, managing financial aspects of projects, and ensuring that each acquisition contributes meaningfully to both the mission and financial goals of the publishing program.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in theology, publishing, English, or a related field required; Master's preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience in book publishing, acquisitions, or developmental editing
  • Deep theological understanding aligned with The Daily Grace Co.'s statement of faith
  • Proven track record of signing books that fit mission and financial goals
  • Experience negotiating contracts and preparing P&L considerations for publishing projects
  • Knowledge of the Christian publishing landscape and its audiences
  • Excellent editorial judgment, written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to proactively manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Awareness of emerging publishing technologies and AI integration tools that can enhance efficiency, proposal evaluation, and market research

Responsibilities
  • Identify, evaluate, and acquire high-quality Bible studies, trade books, and theological resources
  • Contract 30+ titles per year that meet theological, editorial, and market standards
  • Negotiate contracts and manage author agreements in collaboration with the Director of Acquisitions
  • Provide developmental feedback and guidance to authors during early development stages
  • Prepare acquisition recommendations and market/financial assessments for review by leadership
  • Collaborate with editorial, marketing, and design teams to ensure smooth handoffs and successful project launches
  • Monitor market trends to inform future acquisitions
  • Maintain organized records of submissions, contracts, and acquisitions pipeline
  • Contribute insights and recommendations in departmental and cross-departmental meetings
  • Create and refine acquisitions processes to ensure efficiency, consistency, and clarity
  • Other duties as assigned

Benefits: This is a full-time (40-50 hours per week) position that includes the following benefits:
    • Full insurance package including health, dental, vision, basic life, and disability
    • Paid time off - accrue three to five weeks annually based on tenure
    • Thirteen paid holidays
    • Free company product and employee discounts
    • Charity match program up to $1,000 toward your favorite approved charity
    • Partially paid parental leave
    • Annual profit sharing based on company profitability and personal performance
    • 401(k) retirement program with up to a 4% company match
    • Paid community service day to partner with a local nonprofit
    • Up to one week paid leave for an international mission trip
    • Additional half-day of PTO to celebrate your birthday and work anniversary
    • Tuition reimbursement program to attend college or graduate school
    • Join a four-time Inc. 5000 honoree recognized among America's fastest-growing private companies
    • A Christ-centered company culture that reflects our mission and honors our team
