Job description

Department: Aquatics.
Reports To: Head Swim Coach / Senior Director of Aquatics.

Position Summary:
The Part-Time Assistant Swim Coach supports the Aquaflames Swim Team by providing high-quality coaching to swimmers of all ages and competitive levels. The successful candidate will have both USA Swimming coaching experience and a background as a competitive swimmer, allowing them to teach proper technique, training principles, and race strategy while fostering a positive team culture.
This position works closely with the Head Coach to develop athletes both in and out of the water while promoting sportsmanship, discipline, and a lifelong love of competitive swimming.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Assist with planning and conducting daily swim team practices.
  • Coach swimmers using current USA Swimming training principles.
  • Teach stroke technique, starts, turns, race strategy, and conditioning.
  • Monitor swimmer progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Mentor athletes in goal setting, accountability, and leadership.
  • Attend swim meets as assigned.
  • Support recruitment and retention of swimmers.
  • Encourage progression from Pre-Team into the Aquaflames Swim Team.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented environment.
  • Communicate professionally with parents and coaching staff.
  • Assist with special events, clinics, and team functions.
  • Perform additional coaching duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Previous competitive USA Swimming coaching experience required.
  • Competitive USA Swimming swimming experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of stroke mechanics and athlete development.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to motivate swimmers of varying ages and abilities.

Preferred Certifications:
  • USA Swimming Coach Certification.
  • Lifeguard & CPR/AED.
  • First Aid.

Schedule of Practices Coached:
  • Practices held at Commonpoint Central Queens Location (67-09 108th Street, Forest Hills, NY, 11375) and Bayside High School (32-24 Corporal Kennedy Street, Bayside, NY, 11361).
    • Monday 6pm-7pm (Forest Hills).
    • Tuesday/Thursday 6:30pm-8:30pm (Bayside High School) (busing 5:30pm-9pm).
    • Friday 7pm-8:30pm (Forest Hills).
    • Saturday 10am-12pm.
    • Optional 3-5pm at Forest Hills before Bayside practice.
    • Additional administrative hours for the team as needed.

Job Details:
  • Hours: Part-Time, afternoons and evenings.
  • Salary: $30-$35/hour.
