Scope of Work
The Database Administrator will assist in implementing, maintaining, and supporting databases across the organization, including traditional enterprise systems and emerging AI-enabled and analytics platforms. The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in database management concepts, an awareness of modern data and AI architectures, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment while proactively monitoring the health, performance, and reliability of citywide data systems.The items below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by an individual assigned to this position. These are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified in this position. The position description is subject to change by the City as the needs of the City and requirements of the position change.
Essential Job Duties
  • Assist in the design and implementation of new databases and data platforms, including those supporting analytics, machine learning, and AI-enabled applications.
  • Maintain and support existing databases by monitoring performance, system health, capacity, and availability across citywide environments; troubleshoot issues and implement optimizations.
  • Backup and restore databases as needed, ensuring recoverability and resilience for mission-critical systems.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure the integration of databases with enterprise applications, reporting systems, and AI/analytics pipelines.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as updates, patches, upgrades, and configuration tuning.
  • Develop and maintain documentation on database systems, monitoring standards, health dashboards, and operational processes.
  • Ensure data security and integrity by implementing appropriate access controls, auditing, and backup and recovery procedures.
  • Provide data extraction and custom reporting as needed to support business intelligence, analytics, and AI initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Programmer Analyst team and also provide backup to them when necessary.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support and issue resolution as needed.
  • Subject to recall 24/7.

  • Experience with database administration and management tools like Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
