Summary of Excavation Foreman at Layton Services
Layton Services is a growing Site Work & Underground Utilities Contractor specializing in mass excavation, site development, grading, building pads, road construction, and underground utility installation throughout Central Ohio.
We are seeking an experienced Excavation Foreman to lead earthwork crews on commercial site development projects. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with extensive experience in mass excavation, grading, GPS machine control, and coordinating crews and equipment to safely produce quality work while maintaining project schedules.
This position is responsible for planning daily operations, supervising field personnel, coordinating with project management, and ensuring projects are completed safely and efficiently.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise excavation crews performing site grading, mass excavation, and site preparation.
  • Plan daily work activities to maximize productivity while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Read and interpret grading plans, site plans, and construction drawings.
  • Coordinate equipment, manpower, trucking, and materials to maintain production schedules.
  • Operate heavy equipment when necessary and provide guidance to operators.
  • Utilize GPS machine control and grade checking equipment to ensure accurate elevations and finished grades.
  • Communicate daily with the Superintendent, Project Manager, and Director of Operations regarding progress, challenges, and scheduling.
  • Maintain daily production reports, equipment hours, and job documentation.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and utility contractors working within excavation operations.
  • Monitor site conditions and proactively identify potential issues before they impact production.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and inspected.
  • Enforce Layton Services' safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Conduct daily safety discussions and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Mentor and develop operators and laborers to strengthen the crew.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Proven experience in a foreman or supervisory role in excavation, site work, or related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction and on-site construction management principles.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Understanding of GPS and laser-guided layout systems.
  • Understanding of construction software for daily reporting and documentation.
  • Understanding of OSHA workplace safety regulations and best practices.
  • OSHA 30-Hour
