Financial Controller with Government, Manufacturing, Aerospace experience

Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to direct our financial reporting, technical accounting, and regulatory compliance. Reporting directly to executive leadership, you will oversee corporate accounting operations, lead external and federal audit readiness, and serve as the technical authority on GAAP, FAR/DFARS, and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).

This role is designed for a governance-focused financial leader who excels in corporate accounting oversight within a high-precision, contract-driven manufacturing environment.

Core Responsibilities

Financial Governance, Reporting & General Ledger

  • Direct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close cycles, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely financial statements in strict adherence to US GAAP.
  • Maintain complete oversight of the general ledger, balance sheet reconciliations, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and internal control frameworks (SOX/COSO-aligned).
  • Oversee treasury, tax filings, payroll governance, and technical accounting research for complex commercial and federal transactions.

Government Contracting Compliance & Audit Defense

  • Serve as the principal authority for federal compliance, ensuring consistent adherence to FAR, DFARS, and CAS.
  • Lead all interactions, documentation preparation, and audit defense for DCAA, DCMA, and independent external CPA audits.
  • Manage government milestone billings, progress payments, incurred cost submissions (ICS), and allowable versus unallowable cost determinations.
  • Oversee the design, monitoring, and true-up of indirect cost rate pools and allocation structures.

Technical Cost Accounting & Inventory Oversight

  • Guide the cost accounting framework, establishing robust accounting policies for Bill of Materials (BOM), Work-in-Progress (WIP), inventory valuation, and absorption.
  • Partner consultatively with operational leaders to ensure manufacturing inventory workflows and standard costing translate accurately into financial ledger integrity.

Team Leadership & Strategic Financial Stewardship

  • Lead, mentor, and build capacity across the corporate accounting team (AP, AR, Payroll, and General Accounting).
  • Coordinate financial forecasting, budget variances, and cash flow modeling to support executive decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years operating as a Controller or Assistant Controller within a government-contracting manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Mastery: Deep working knowledge of US GAAP, FAR/DFARS, CAS, and DCAA/DCMA audit protocols.
  • Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; active CPA or CMA a plus.
  • Systems: Hands-on proficiency with tier-one or tier-two manufacturing ERP platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Deltek Costpoint, or NetSuite); advanced financial modeling capabilities.
  • Attributes: High technical precision, ethical leadership, and the communication skills required to translate complex compliance requirements to executive leadership and mentorship of support team.
  • Onsite: Position is on-site M-F senior management/exempt

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision health coverage
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
