Tool and Die Maker 3 - 2790
Builds and modifies tools, dies, jigs, molds, and fixtures using precision bench and machining operations. Leads, directs, and trains Tool and Die Maker 1's on as needed basis.
Job Duties
  • Conduct tests for completed tools and/or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications
  • Cut, shape and trim material to specifications
  • Design jigs, fixtures and templates as needed
  • Teach and train apprentices
  • Grind and adjust different parts to properly fit them together
  • Handle complex issues and problems and refer only the most complex issues to higher level staff
  • Select metals to be used based on properties
  • Troubleshoot Dies in the press and on the bench
  • Setup and assist in operating machinery in designated department when needed
  • Offer improvement ideas for current tooling
  • Complete all necessary documents fully and accurately
  • Adhere to 5S standards (e.g., maintain cleanliness of work area, etc.)
  • Follow all Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience and Education
  • Perform work under minimal supervision
  • Possess comprehensive working knowledge of subject matter
  • Completed Tool and Die school through TCAT or equivalent
  • Advanced knowledge of progressive, forge, or draw dies
  • Advanced grinding, milling and lathe knowledge
  • 5-10 years of relevant tool and die experience
