What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop and execute state and regional government affairs strategies that advance business priorities in partnership with regional leadership teams.

  • Build, strengthen, and maintain relationships with elected officials, government agencies, policymakers, community leaders, industry associations, and other key stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with state trade associations to influence legislative, regulatory, and policy outcomes that impact the business.

  • Represent Heidelberg Materials North America in governmental, industry, and stakeholder forums while serving as a trusted company advocate.

  • Provide strategic guidance to regional teams on policy positioning, advocacy initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and issue management efforts.

  • Identify emerging legislative, regulatory, and political trends and develop proactive strategies to address opportunities and risks.

  • Design and deliver training programs, tools, resources, playbooks, and best practices that strengthen internal advocacy and stakeholder engagement capabilities across regions.

  • Support engagement with federal policymakers and national trade associations while ensuring alignment with company government affairs priorities and objectives.

  • Lead stakeholder mapping, relationship management, reporting, and analytics efforts to identify key influencers, engagement opportunities, and measure advocacy effectiveness.

  • Partner cross-functionally with legal, operations, communications, sustainability, commercial, and other business teams to align public policy strategies with business goals and provide actionable policy insights.

What Are We Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government Affairs, Public Administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, advocacy, or a related field, preferably within the building materials, construction, manufacturing, industrial, or related sectors.

  • Strong understanding of legislative, regulatory, and political processes at the local, state, and federal levels.

  • Proven ability to build, influence, and maintain effective relationships with government officials, policymakers, industry associations, and other key stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively represent the company in diverse settings.

  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and project management capabilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive results.

  • High integrity, sound judgment, adaptability, and a collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently and effectively across cross-functional teams.

Work Environment

  • Office-based work environment with periodic travel throughout assigned regions and to industry events.

  • Frequent interaction with government officials, policymakers, trade associations, community organizations, and internal stakeholders.

  • Fast-paced environment requiring adaptability, strategic thinking, and effective prioritization.

  • Occasional attendance at legislative sessions, conferences, public meetings, and stakeholder engagement events.
