This role is hybrid requiring 2 days in the office a week in one of our tech hubs: Plano, TX, Boston, MA, Portsmouth, NH, Indianapolis, IN, and Columbus, OH

Role Summary

Under general direction, acts as a technical expert who consults on highly complex projects. Responsible for the analysis, development and execution of complex software and data solutions, to manage the information lifecycle needs of the organization. Develops, models, constructs, tests and maintains applications and data architectures for data collection, database, analytical/reporting, or data science systems. Establishes and builds data systems including providing standards, policies, practice, procedures, governance and quality assurance for data deliverables. Recommends methods to improve data reliability, quality, and efficiency. Devises or modifies procedures to solve technical problems. Leads and directs the work of team members. May mentor junior team members.

The Portfolio Principal Engineer (PPE) role within the DAE BDSE Digital, Customer and Service data delivery portfolio is the technical leader who collaborates with various domain stakeholders, engineering teams, and leadership to ensure that the teams have the necessary support and expertise to deliver maximum business value to our customers.

Functionally, the PPE reports to the Portfolio Engineering Director and coordinates with TTT as needed for cross portfolio solutioning. The PPE’s time will be spent working with the engineering teams, leadership, and stakeholders directly – while collaborating with TTT on department wide best practices and solutions, providing feedback on technical proposals and initiatives, and operating within an autonomous Kanban model.

This role is an exciting opportunity for a strong Principal Engineer who is willing to step out of their comfort zone, take on new technical and process challenges, and work to enhance their leadership skillset in high-demand SDLC environment

Role Skills

Full Stack Development, Software Engineering, back-end application/platform engineering expertise within the digital and data spaces is most needed for this role.

Experience with Tealium Tag Management, Tealium CDP, Adobe and Snowflake. These platform/tools are similar to others in the industry, i.e. Ensighten, Google Analytics, Google Tag Management, Content Square, HEAP etc. Experience with client and service side collection.

The PPE supports application and web analytics collection platforms to track and analyze user interactions on Liberty’s customer and agent facing websites and applications to optimize digital performance.

Experience with tag management platforms like Tealium, or Google Tag Manager (GTM), and Analytics systems such as Adobe Analytics, CJA, Customer Data Platform (CDP), Google Analytics, and solid foundation in JavaScript and back/front-end development is ideal.

The PPE will ensure a consistent tagging approach that enables desired reporting while validating tagging and usability within both Adobe Analytics UI as well as raw clickstream data – during feature releases as well as any necessary regression testing.

This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to define tagging requirements for digital properties, such as websites, mobile apps, and other digital platforms.

Additional required skills: backend services (Java Script, AWS [SQS, SNS, S3, CDK, Lambda], RESTful APIs, PCF, and Kafka) in addition to Tealium Tag Management System, Adobe Analytics variable mapping, Heap Analytics and Galileo.js (autocapture)/Galileo API.

Role Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and develop complex data solutions and act as a technical expert for complex data initiatives across the portfolio
  • Builds and designs complex data models and data architecture that improve accessibility, efficiency, governance, and quality of data. Collaborate with TTT on LTAs on existing & new design patterns, as needed
  • Actively participate in portfolio agile ceremonies (PI Planning, Sprint Planning, Backlog grooming, Sprint Reviews) and guide the product teams
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance data pipelines, processes and make recommendations to improve management of data & reduce costs and drive those forward
  • Lead and direct team members, mentor data engineers across the portfolio & upskill talent.
  • Ensure the portfolio teams consistently follow established best practices and standards, identify gaps in our processes & document to streamline and enable product teams to develop efficiently
  • Collaborate & support the Solutions Engineer in design, backlog refinement, capabilities, developing Technology roadmaps, implementation, cutover plans, post-implementation support, any issues/defects, transition planning, and knowledge sharing efforts
  • Actively participate by contributing topics of interest & actioning items coming out of the various forums (BDSE Dev User, DV, Testing Guild, Tech Roundtables, Leadership) and improve engineering user experience

Tools and Programs: Consults on designing and developing complex programs and tools to support ingestion, curation and provisioning of complex enterprise data to achieve analytics, reporting, and data science. Involved in and contributes to development and enhancement of solutions for gaps.

Design and Build: Designs, data models and builds complex data provisioning workflows/pipelines, physical data schemas, extracts, data transformations, and data integrations.

Designs and builds complex data architecture and applications that enable reporting, analytics, data science, and data management and improves accessibility, efficiency, governance, processing, and quality of data.

Deploy/Implementation: Supports the Solutions Engineer in implementation. Support can include but is not limited to; cutover plans, post-implementation support, any issues/defects, transition planning, and knowledge sharing efforts.
