To thrive as a Google Analytics 4 Specialist, you need a solid understanding of web analytics, data interpretation, digital marketing, and experience with GA4 platform features. Familiarity with tools like Google Tag Manager, Data Studio, and GA4 certification is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help translate complex data into actionable insights for stakeholders. These skills are crucial for driving data-informed decisions and optimizing digital strategies to achieve business goals.

What is Google Analytics 4?

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the latest version of Google's web analytics platform, designed to help businesses measure and analyze website and app traffic. Unlike the previous Universal Analytics, GA4 uses an event-based data model, allowing for more flexible and detailed tracking of user interactions. It provides enhanced privacy controls, cross-platform tracking, and machine learning capabilities to deliver deeper insights into customer behavior. GA4 also prepares businesses for a cookie-less future by focusing on first-party data and predictive analytics.

What are some common challenges faced when transitioning from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4 in a professional setting?

One of the main challenges when transitioning from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is adapting to the new data model, which is event-based rather than session-based. This requires rethinking how data is collected and reported, as familiar metrics and reports may differ or need to be recreated in GA4. Additionally, configuring custom events and conversions often involves more technical setup and collaboration with developers. As a GA4 analyst or specialist, you'll also spend significant time educating stakeholders on the new interface and capabilities, ensuring everyone can leverage the platform effectively.

Job description

The scope would be focused on ensuring GA4 is set up correctly from both a front-end and back-end perspective so that our requirements are fully met. Specifically, we’re looking for support to:

  • Configure GA4 to align with defined metrics requirements
  • Set up clients-specific attributes, including integration with Okta SSO
  • Establish the right backend structure to capture data accurately during development
  • Build automated dashboards and reporting to reduce overhead and ensure actionable insights

We are seeking someone with as much GA4 experience as possible, ideally 3–5 years (dating back to its release in 2020), along with a strong background in web analytics overall. The candidate should have proven experience configuring GA4 in enterprise environments and familiarity with integrating identity management systems such as Okta SSO.
