Job Summary:
The Housekeeping Associate is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment across Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee facilities. This role may support retail stores, the Opportunity Campus, the Cockrill Bend warehouse and operations center, administrative offices, training spaces, restrooms, and other assigned areas. The associate ensures that all spaces meet Goodwill's cleanliness standards to support positive customer, employee, trainee, and donor experiences.

Job Description
Essential Functions:
General Cleaning & Facility Maintenance
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and wiping down surfaces in all assigned areas.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, breakrooms, training areas, and high-touch surfaces.
  • Maintain cleanliness of entrances, sidewalks, back rooms, hallways, stairwells, and public areas.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers; replace liners and transport waste to proper disposal locations.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisor when items need replenishing.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Retail Store Responsibilities (as assigned)
  • Ensure sales floors, fitting rooms, customer restrooms, donation areas, and employee areas are kept clean and orderly.
  • Assist with cleaning store fixtures, shelving, windows, mirrors, and flooring.
  • Support store leadership in maintaining a safe and welcoming shopping environment.

Opportunity Campus Responsibilities (as assigned)
  • Clean classrooms, training spaces, offices, restrooms, hallways, and shared areas.
  • Support readiness of training rooms by ensuring cleanliness and proper setup.
  • Maintain cleanliness of public and staff areas to support program delivery.

Cockrill Bend Warehouse & Operations Responsibilities (as assigned)
  • Sweep, dust, and maintain cleanliness of warehouse floors, aisles, and work areas.
  • Assist with cleaning employee restrooms, breakrooms, and locker areas.
  • Support sanitation needs around production lines, baling areas, and dock spaces as directed.
  • Follow all safety practices required in high-traffic industrial environments.

Other Responsibilities
  • Report maintenance or safety concerns immediately (e.g., spills, leaks, broken fixtures, hazards).
  • Safely use and store cleaning equipment (buffers, vacuums, floor scrubbers, etc.) when trained and authorized.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support cleanliness and safety across Goodwill facilities.

Qualifications
  • Ability to work independently and follow a daily or weekly cleaning schedule.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25-50 lbs. and stand, bend, or reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in both retail, office and industrial environments assigned.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and positive environment for all.

Minimum Qualifications
Required Skills
Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, preferred.

Experience
  • Prior housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred but not required.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Work Environment
