Job description

Full-Time: 40 Hours Per Week
1st Shift: 8:30am-5:00pm

Summary:
The Analytical Chemist Technician will conduct routine analyses of laboratory specimens on all patient types to aid in the diagnosis of disease. Testing of specimens requires knowledge and application of laboratory science techniques, attention to detail and quality control, demonstrated skill with sophisticated testing equipment and computers, as well as troubleshooting and maintenance skills to maintain accurate functioning equipment.
Responsibilities:
  1. Use advanced instrumentation which includes Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) and Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LCMS/MS) as well as other analytical techniques to analyze chemical samples.
  2. Test chemical samples for quality control.
  3. Follows all hospital policies and procedures as well as all laboratory policies and procedures including but not limited to: specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient results.
  4. Reports critical information for physician or caregiver as indicated by policy and within acceptable timeframes.
  5. Monitors inventory of consumables and reagents.
  6. Performs instrument maintenance.
  7. Responsible for adhering to and executing Good Lab Practices (GLPs).
  8. Other duties as assigned.

  1. Technical Expertise
    1. Experience in clinical laboratory setting including recent experience in multiple laboratory disciplines is preferred.
    2. Knowledge of Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC MS/MS) is preferred.
    3. Experience performing high complexity testing is required.
    4. Strong problem-solving skills.
    5. Strong analytical skills.
    6. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are required.
    7. Ability to work well under pressure to prioritize and complete required tasks and responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner.
    8. Experience working with various levels within an organization is required.
    9. Experience in healthcare is preferred.
    10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
    11. Experience working in an electronic medical record system (i.e. EPIC) or similar software is preferred.

    Education and Experience
    1. Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or closely related field is required.
    2. Licenses: None
    3. Certification:
    4. Years of experience: Minimum of 3 years of lab experience is strongly preferred.
    5. Years of experience in supervising: None
