Job description

POSITION:  Hospitality & Tourism Management CTE Teacher - Temporary Position

LOCATION:  Delmar High School

                        200 N. Eighth Street

                        Delmar, DE 19940

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Delaware certification as a Delaware Family and Consumer Science Teacher Standard Certificate in accordance with Delaware Administrative Code, Title 14,  1554

OR

  • Possess six (6) years of work experience in an area related to Hospitality and Tourism and be willing to pursue additional education and obtain certification as Skilled & Technical Sciences Teacher in accordance with Delaware Administrative Code, Title 14,  1559
  • Experience in the tourism and/or restaurant industry preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations preferred
  • Possess or willingness to obtain ServSafe Food Safety Manager Certification
  • Mantoux skin test/PPD documentation
  • Cooperative Attitude
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff, and parents.
  • Good oral and written communication with the ability to present information effectively.
  • The State of Delaware requires all public school employees to undergo a criminal background check (state and federal) to determine suitability for employment.
  • Appointment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory criminal background check, which is the responsibility of the employee.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and deliver lesson plans in Hospitality & Tourism courses aligned with State Career and Technical (CTE) Standards.
  • Teach industry-relevant technical and management skills that prepare students for entry-level positions and higher education pathways.
  • Integrate employability skills such as leadership, guest services, teamwork, accountability, and professional communication into classroom and lab activities.
  • Facilitate student attainment of industry certifications (e.g., Certified Hospitality & Tourism Management Professional, ServSafe Manager, CPR/First Aid/AED) and support pathways for Early College credit.
  • Coordinate and supervise work-based learning experience (e.g., job shadowing, mock interviews, resume workshops, mentorships) that connect students with real-world hospitality industry partners.
  • Assess and document student progress through a variety of assessments, projects, and performance tasks, maintaining accurate records and reporting as required.
  • Engage with industry partners, community stakeholders, and postsecondary institutions to keep curriculum aligned with current workforce needs and to expand student opportunities.
  • Create a positive, hands-on learning environment that supports diverse learners and fosters practical skill development applicable across hospitality and tourism careers.
  • Advise and mentor students on career paths in the tourism and hospitality sector.
  • Organize field trips, guest lectures, and networking opportunities with professionals.
  • Create and teach lesson plans, aid students in understanding subject matter, and ensure that classroom routines are followed in accordance with school guidelines.
  • Maintain an orderly and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning, enforcing school rules and classroom behavior expectations consistently.
  • Monitor students' academic progress through accurate grades and assessments.
  • Provide instructional opportunities through a digital student learning management system.
  • Practice sound interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and families.
  • Maintain communication with students, parents/guardians, and school staff as needed.
  • Make reasonable efforts to provide for the care and protection of school property, equipment, and materials.
  • Maintain a professional relationship, working cooperatively with all school personnel.
  • Participate in department or team meetings, professional development, and other school-related duties as requested.
  • Report to work on time every workday, except as afforded by existing law.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the school administration.
  • The teacher must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is required to fluently speak and understand English.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers, and reach with hands and arms.
  • While performing the duties of this job, expect occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

SALARY: As per State and Local Salary Schedules for FY27 based upon experience and educational degree
