Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
Assist the head coach with responsibilities associated with one or more Chapman University Division III athletics teams. Duties include coaching, teaching, recruiting, fundraising and other duties as assigned in support of the athletics department. Flexible schedule and some travel may be required. Successful candidate is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by the University and NCAA. This position will have campus security authority (CSA) related responsibilities under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, which is a federal law requiring disclosure of information about crimes on and around campus
Responsibilities
Team Practice & Player Development
  • Practice Planning: Assist the Head Coach in designing and executing daily practice plans, including on-range technical drills, short-game clinics, and on-course situational play.
  • Player Development: Provide individual and group instruction to maximize student-athlete potential, focusing on course management, swing mechanics, and the mental game.
  • Technology & Data Analytics: Utilize and manage golf-specific technology (e.g., TrackMan, Rapsodo, or stats tracking apps like Evan's Choice/UpGame) to analyze player performance and track development metrics.
  • Facility Management: Coordinate schedule logistics and setup/breakdown for practice sessions at both home course facilities and indoor winter training simulation spaces.
Tournament & Game Day Operations
  • Tournament Strategy: Partner with the Head Coach on pre-tournament course scouting, mapping, and the development of comprehensive course-management strategies.
  • In-Round Coaching: Provide active instruction, strategic adjustments, and psychological support to student-athletes during competitive rounds within NCAA coaching boundaries.
  • Travel & Logistics: Manage all aspects of team travel logistics for away tournaments, including booking transportation, lodging, team meals, and equipment transport.
  • Compliance & Administration: Ensure strict adherence to NCAA Division III, conference, and institutional rules and regulations during all practices and competitions.
Recruitment & Talent Identification
  • DIII Talent Identification: Assist in building and executing a strategic recruiting plan to identify high-achieving student-athletes who fit the academic rigor and athletic standards of the institution.
  • Prospect Communication: Maintain consistent communication with prospective student-athletes, parents, and high school/swing coaches through emails, calls, and recruiting platforms.
  • Campus Visits: Help coordinate and lead official and unofficial campus visits, showcasing the campus, athletic facilities, and team culture.
Student-Athlete Support & Operations
  • Academic Monitoring: Actively monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes, ensuring compliance with institutional standards and fostering a balance between academics and athletics.
  • Equipment & Inventory: Manage the inventory, ordering, and distribution of team gear, apparel, and golf equipment (bags, balls, clubs).
  • Social Media & Promotion: Collaborate with the Sports Information Department to create engaging content for team social media accounts to enhance program visibility and aid recruiting.
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Support team operations such as travel planning, equipment inventory, and facility scheduling
  • Assist with team events, community outreach, and fundraising initiatives
  • Perform administrative tasks related to program compliance and communication
  • Maintain a positive and professional environment that supports student-athlete development.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience in providing administrative support in a professional office.
  • Relevant playing and/or coaching experience at the college level.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple, competing tasks and priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate with a diverse community of students, faculty, coaches, administrators and staff
  • Proficiency with word-processing software and database management
